Harry Kemp Education 2018-2022 Architecture and Planning, 2:1 Graduate University of the West of England My final year project was awarded the Architecture innovation award, the design had a few new concepts incorporated within it. To summaries the work, the landscaping and buildings function is all to help mitigate food poverty in one of the most deprived areas of Bristol (Lawrence Hill). The construction was all CLT and Glulam, but utilities smaller members all joined using wood joinery to lower the carbon footprint of the building and also create a elegant and beautiful structure.

Environmentally, the scheme utilities its form to reduce its carbon footprint by integrating vertical wind turbines into the architecture, and using its form to help with the function of growing food.

The solar shading is a new concept that helps to create a solid structure during the day, and then transforms at night to reveal itself as a monument to the community. I have a passion for focusing on how architects can help communities, especially around the subject of food poverty, which was the main drive behind the design. It is also an area I still research and was the topic for my dissertation. This is represented within my portfolio.

2016 Andrew’s Butchers [Hadleigh] Butcher’s Hand

I have a keen interest in climbing. It is a rather new hobby I acquired after lockdown. For me climbing is a way to relax, I can concentrate on working out a set route within my own time, whilst also socialising with fellow climbers, it has a sense of community that seems to draw me back.

I have a strong interest in sustainability, hence becoming part of the University of the West of England’s Sustainability Committee to help build sustainable practices into my daily life. I try to implement these interests into my life from the way I cook and eat to the means in which I travel.

2012-2022 Antique Dealer [Varied] Self-employed antique dealer, sourcing items with an intrinsic design value to sell to customers at a profit.

This created a flexible job that helped me financially through my education.

Key Responsibilities: • Sourcing items through auctions, markets and other antique dealers utilising my keen eye for design • Negotiating with sellers to acquire the items at a price that will leave margins for profit.

• Selling the acquired stock to customers, negotiating when margins are available to work with.

• Repairing and re-purposing items to create unique pieces with a new purpose or function and generate a profit.

2021 Brozen Labs [Bristol] A 3 month design and photography internship for Brozen Labs, a Bristol based cocktail bar trying to diversify its revenue during the pandemic. Creating advertisement videos, leaflets and photographs for the marketing of the company’s new side of the business.

Key Responsibilities: • Proposing and creating new adverts to use on social media platforms, and marketing material.

• Creating an animated logo to be used at the end of all video based promotional material.

• Creation of marketing leaflets and recipe cards for the new product line.

• Advising on the design of packaging to stay on brand.

2022 Pegasus Group [Bristol] As part of the planning qualification, I completed a work placement at planning agency, Pegasus Group.

I conducted appraisals for telecommunication masts, solar farm, wind farms, BESS sites, and residential developments. Additionally, I completed research and re-applications for proposals.

Key Responsibilities: • Researching and analysing policies at a local and national level.

• Assessing sites to understand the constraints and viability of proposals.

• Creating a balanced argument as to why the proposal is in line with policies and a beneficial contribution to the area.

• Completing appraisals and pre-applications for the proposed sites.
