Founders Society

The Founders Society was established in 1995 to recognize all alumnae and friends who have included the School in their estate plans by bequest, a life income plan or some form of deferred gift. Founders Society members are committed to ensuring that Harpeth Hall will endure for future generations — helping students learn to think critically, to lead confidently, and to live honorably. Harpeth Hall recognizes with gratitude the members of The Founders Society.

Mary Helfrich

It was my great honor to serve as the HHPA President in 2019-2020 and to partner with so many dedicated parent volunteers. Even though many of our HHPA spring events were canceled, our volunteers worked tirelessly to come up with distanced alternatives. None of us will ever forget the Spring of 2020. I will always be grateful for parents’ help and support before, and after, COVID-19 turned all our lives upside down. Thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of Jackie Daniel, Louise Kohler, and their army of volunteers, the 2020 Moon Landing and Main Event was an incredible success raising just over $100,000. Museum of the Moon provided an inspiring and educational event for our community on the heels of the devastating Nashville tornadoes and prior to the emergence of a global pandemic. The moon brought all of us an opportunity to come together to support each other and our greater Nashville community.

Our fundraising efforts helped fund three campus initiatives. First, the HHPA donated money to support the Harpeth Hall Speakers Fund. Second, we made a commitment to the renovation of Bullard Gymnasium into an innovative teaching and learning space, which is currently under review by the Board of Trustees. Finally, we donated to The Olivia Fund, which helps students and families who demonstrate need with school expenses beyond tuition that are not covered by financial aid. In addition, our HHPA Board decided to set aside excess money to help future HHPA Boards fund programs for our girls.

Personally, my husband Loring and I are so grateful that our daughters have the gift of a Harpeth Hall education. My tenure as HHPA President coincided with our daughter Reid’s senior year. To see her enter as a curious, wide-eyed and excited fifth grade girl and graduate as an accomplished, compassionate, motivated young woman, is pretty special. The reasons we chose Harpeth Hall for our girls, and our family, came full circle. Reid has now successfully transitioned to Wake Forest University. Thanks to her Harpeth Hall education, she has not missed a beat! Hannah ’22 is happily navigating her way through her junior year. The support of her incredible teachers and the lifelong friendships she has cultivated solidify why Harpeth Hall is the best place for her. We are excited to see how Hannah’s Harpeth Hall experience will launch her into college in 2022.

Thank you for making my year as HHPA President so rewarding and fun. And, thank you, Harpeth Hall, for what you do for all girls and families.

Mary Helfrich, 2019-20 HHPA President and mother of Reid ’20 and Hannah ’22
