The

Impact of Your Gift: Enables Us To Recruit Exceptional Faculty

“As part of the learning process, I want my students to continue to make connections within and across disciplines. Once they make the connections, I hope they will delight in their discoveries of new relationships.”

– Pamela Carver, Middle School English Department Chair

“I hope my students continue to have a life-long curiosity about individual thoughts and stories from diverse perspectives.”

– Jackie Powers, Upper School English Department Chair

“I hope my students will leave my class with a greater curiosity for the world around them. I want them to appreciate the things they do not understand and have the confidence to discover the answers.”

– Bekah Hassell, Middle School Science teacher

Harpeth Hall’s faculty is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of our excellent educational program. The Faculty Core Purpose is “to nurture a sense of wonder, to instill a will and facility for learning, and to promote cultural understanding, environmental stewardship, and service to others. The pursuit of these goals will inspire students and faculty to combine knowledge with goodness and reflection with action.” At Harpeth Hall, our outstanding faculty is committed to the philosophy of life-long learning. From the time our students step onto this campus until their Commencement day, the faculty seeks to instill in our students a passion for knowledge. Along the way, young women discover their talents and get a glimpse into the world that they will lead. Their journeys inspire and invigorate us, and we feel privileged to be their guides. Gifts to endowment enable Harpeth Hall to provide sustained funding for competitive faculty salaries and benefits. In 1993, the estate of Lulu Hampton Owen provided a significant gift to establish an endowment that would name an outstanding faculty member as an Owen Chair each year, who demonstrates excellence in teaching. Additionally, a major gift from the Hofstead family established two chairs: the Ellen Bowers Hofstead Chair in Mathematics and Science and the Ellen Bowers Hofstead in the Humanities. And each year, a generous donor funds the Heath Jones Prize for a new teacher. Featured are the teachers rewarded in 2012 for their excellence: Pam Carver – Lulu Hampton Owen Chair for Excellence in Teaching, Jackie Powers – Hofstead Chair in the Humanities, Bekah Hassell – The Heath Jones Prize.
