CompTIA CERTIFICATIONS

Introduction to Data Analytics This course will prepare the student to gather and do preliminary analytics on data sampled from a larger data set. The student will review the statistical elements to analyze data, the “rules” behind determining if the data is valid, and using the knowledge gained from the course to analyze real world data from probably the largest data repositories in the United States. The student is not required to know statistics or math, since the course is not statistics-focused as much as it is understanding the logic behind data gathering and analysis. RETURNING FALL 2020

CLOUD COMPUTING AWS Cloud Foundations AWS Academy’s Cloud Foundations is intended for students who seek an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. It provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. Prerequisite: Basic IT and business knowledge.

What is A+ Certification?

Sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), A+ Certification is an industry-wide, globally recognized credential for today’s PC Repair Technicians. It is a marketable certification that organizations seek when hiring PC Technicians to support and maintain PCs in a diverse network environment. Whether a student pursues A+ Certification for its own merit or as a starting point for other certifications, the courses offered at Harford Community College give a firm foundation of knowledge, ability, and skills in the field of maintenance and PC Repair. Practice tests are used in preparing for the exam. Required Courses • Fundamentals of PC Repair • PC Repair Technician Level 1 • PC Repair Technician Level 2

Textbooks/Exams

Texts for courses must be purchased before the first day of class. Textbooks can be purchased at the College Store or online at bookstore.harford.edu.

Fundamentals of Cloud Administration

Classes include practice test sessions. It is recommended that exams be taken within six weeks of course completion.

HYBRID COURSE

Students will gain knowledge and develop hands-on experience solving real-world problems in the area of cloud administration. This includes the process to provide, orchestrate, scale, manage and monitor cloud services across computer storage, networking, and security using various cloud interfaces. All projects utilize existing public cloud infrastructure, tools, and services. Specifically, students will be exposed to real-world scenarios, infrastructure, and data. It is our goal that students will develop the skills needed to become a cloud administrator.

Gain a basic foundational knowledge of personal computers and the skills required to work in an IT career.

PC Repair Technician Level 1 This is the second course in a series of three designed to prepare students to sit for the A+ Certification exam. Learn how different hardware and software components interact to make a PC system function. Install Windows to discuss, troubleshoot, and repair common problems. Skills include basic maintenance techniques, configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting Windows initialization/support files. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of PC Repair. Textbook purchase required.

PC Repair Technician Level 2 This is the third course in a series of three designed to prepare students to sit for the A+ Certification exam. Building on the knowledge learned in the Fundamentals of PC Repair and the PC Repair Technician Level 1 course, learn to dismantle and reassemble a complete PC system and to be able to identify, repair, and/or replace every component in the PC system. Students work with motherboards, CPUs, power supplies, BIOS, memory, video cards, hard drives, CD-ROMs, sound cards, network cards, SCSI, and printers. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of PC Repair and PC Repair Technician Level 1. Textbook purchase required.
