What is great art? That question has plagued artists, art historians and curators for centuries, so we’re not going to tackle it. What we will do is focus on ways of looking at art. What should you look at when you look at a painting, sculpture or photograph? Is reading the wall label necessary? Do you have to spend 5 minutes in front of a painting to “appreciate” it? This class will offer some approaches to art including formal, historic and contextual. Senior adult tuition waivers apply. Tuition: $39 Sessions: 3

The Impressionists and Post-Impressionists laid the foundations for a new way of creating and looking at art. During the 1860s-1960s, artists began using abstraction, new materials, and a radically different perspective to create art. In part, a response to the atrocities of WWI and WWII, artists began to create work that challenged the notions of what art is and what it could or should be. Senior adult tuition waivers apply. Tuition: $39 Sessions: 1
