Emphasis is placed on theories of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development as well as approaches in program planning, curriculum development, and selection of age-appropriate materials and methods through which educational outcomes are attained. Designed to provide students with knowledge to meet the needs of the young child from birth to age seven. Emphasis is on the practical aspects of caring for young children, creating environmental settings instrumental in providing optimal development, and guidelines for selecting quality childcare and educational programs.
