26TH SPRING BENEFIT HONOREES (CONT’D)
THE BUBARIS FAMILY The Bubaris Family joined Harbor Country Day School nearly 20 years ago when their daughters, Philly and Dessy, were in the fifth and second grade. At that time, George shuttled between his two restaurants and Joan worked in financial planning. Harbor offered a peace of mind for them. They knew that their daughters were being kept safe in a nurturing environment with solid core values and a strong curriculum. Philly graduated in 2005, and Harbor’s School Spirit Award was created in her name. Dessy followed suit and was the recipient of the Headmaster Award for the 2008 graduating class. Through the years, George made a name for himself as the first man to join the Parents’ Association and as the grill master for the annual Harbor Picnic. In 2012, he joined the Board of Trustees as secretary and continued in various roles and multiple committees until a couple of years ago. Today, George and Joan own an art framing company called ‘Parthenon Framing.’ They frequent art shows accompanied by their Pekingese puppies Billy and Willy - they are quite the art critics! Philly graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a MBA in Management. After a career in network news, Philly is now the Deputy Director of the Office of the CEO of Montefiore Medicine. Dessy graduated from Marywood University and is a registered dietitian. She is now living in Baltimore as she pursues a Masters in Nursing at Johns Hopkins University.
