What I like About You Music !

‘Talking In Your Sleep’. Having been in the music biz for over 50 years and one of the original members of the HIT rock band The Romantics, Mike talks all things music and his love of the fans, band and biz.

He was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit where the local music influenced his desire to be a musician. Originally liking the drums, he soon drifted over to the guitar and made it his 5th appendage. Still touring today, Mike fondly recalls all that it took to get here. From teaching himself guitar, he didn’t want to lug a drum set around, to having his mom drive one of his band mates to the next city because that bandmate missed the bus, to originally forming the Motor City Rockers, to traveling to NYC’s famed CBGB’s and

The Ramones, Johnny Thunder, NY Dolls and Motown definitely inspired and influenced him and his music making. So much so that he and the band were being noticed by others in the biz and within 6 or 8 months of forming they, on their 3 rd opening gig, got to open for Jay Geils, Steve Miller and Peter Frampton. From there, things got better and better for him and the band. Ultimately, they made it to the pinnacle of clubs, CBGB’s in NYC (July 1977) and beyond. Mike adores his fans and believes that playing before a live audience is not only fun for the audience but fun and inspiring for him and the band. Due to their HIT songs and his writing and performing of new music, he and The Romantics are running single “67 Riot”-off his album, Skill…Mike Skill. 67 Riot depicts, through music, the unrest that took hold of Detroit in 1967.

Making music is ‘something that I love’, said Mike. He enjoys the process from conception, to production, to ultimately playing sold-out shows across North America. With that I asked him, what advice can you give up and coming musicians? He said, “get yourself your own lawyer and accountant”, “you want someone in your corner protecting your interests.”

Mike Skill and the Romantics continue to play to sold out crowds all across North America.
