Haley’s Helping Hands, Inc Statement of Intent We are looking for students with a minimum of three semesters experience in the relevant degree program. The student should still be enrolled in this degree program throughout the span of their internship with Haley’s Helping Hands. We have it structured this way because we care a great deal about the interns opportunity to learn; with a strong foundation in the theory of the subject, connections with professors past and present, and the guidance of our executive director, we believe that the student will not only learn a great deal during their internship, preparing themselves for the work environment, but will also have experiences that help them learn during their studies and offer valuable discussions to aid in the learning of their classmates. Further Considerations for Applicants Haley’s Helping Hands has a strong corporate culture that we are very protective of. It states who we are and who we want to become; we hire and fire based off of these core values and take them very seriously. Applicants will be offered an internship position based off of meeting the requirements listed above and their fit for the company. We do not care about experience; we want to provide the experience and education students will need to be successful in the workplace. We do care about the applicants desire to learn and enthusiasm.


Positions Available: For the following three positions, we are looking for interns for both marketing and communications degree programs. We believe that the students will have an opportunity to bring different perspectives to the jobs, learn how to work in a team (we will also be providing training for team dynamics), and learn from their team members as well as from the organization. Public Relations: We believe that the nature of business has shifted over the past couple of years; the most successful companies are those who have a story that consumers can identify with. At Haley’s Helping Hands we believe that we have an awesome story and it will be the PR department’s job to tell that story effectively. Tasks for the Internship: -

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the community through media representatives and relevant departments within the company to develop new business opportunities. Write interesting and effective press releases and prepare information for media kits. Maintain company internet or intranet webpages, including social media pages. Identify main client groups and audiences, determine the best way to communicate publicity information to them, and develop and implement a communication plan. Propose ways to use the company’s logo and signage to maintain and develop the company’s corporate image and identity. Will work with the Executive Director and company’s graphic designer to execute this vision. Respond to requests for information about employers’ activities or status. Manage communications budgets. Direct activities of external agencies, establishments and departments that develop and implement communication strategies and information programs. Draft speeches for the company’s spokeswoman; arrange interviews and other forms of contact for her. Work with the company’s spokeswoman to ensure she is comfortable delivering the speeches. Evaluate advertising and promotion programs for compatibility with PR efforts.


Partner Liaison: At Haley’s Helping Hands we believe that forming partnerships is one of the best ways that we can serve the Canton area. The partner liaison is available to answer and resolve our partner’s concerns or questions. This is position is a mixture of customer service, public relations, and analyst responsibilities. Tasks for the Internship: -

Work with the PR team to follow leads on potential partnerships. Research potential partners and propose ways that the company could form a partnership. Maintain current partnerships by being resolving issues that the partner may have. Create and update a FAQ for partners to ensure that partners have a clear and consistent understanding of how to answer questions about their relationship with Haley’s Helping Hands. Analyze potential partners, specifically looking for areas where they behave irresponsibly with their resources. Educate the Executive Director about each partner. Work with the PR team to share how we continue to be responsible with how we allocate our funds to community partners. Educate the PR team, so that they can tell the community, why we create partnerships with each partner, and how that partnership will help resolve homelessness. Confer with partners by telephone or in person to provide information about the company and obtain details of complaints. Keep records of partner interactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, or comments, as well as actions taken. Check to ensure that appropriate changes were made to resolve partners’ problems. Refer unresolved customer grievances to designated departments for further investigation.


Community Outreach/Fundraising: Connecting with the community and raising funds is a critical task for the prosperity of the company. We are looking to fill this position with a team of interns that create tactful and mindful solicitations to the public. Too often charities bombard donors with ineffective solicitation of monetary donations; we believe at Haley’s Helping Hands that there are more creative ways to do this. Tasks for the Internship: -

Attend community events, meetings, or conferences to promote organizational goals or solicit donations or sponsorships. Contact corporate representatives, government officials, or community leaders to increase awareness of organizational causes, activities, or needs. Update donor databases. Work with the company’s graphic designer to produce materials such as posters, web sites, or newsletters to promote, market, or advertise fundraising events. Develop corporate fundraising programs, such as employer gift-matching. Develop fundraising activity plans that maximize participation or contributions and minimize costs. Develop and implement fundraising activities, such as annual giving campaigns. Develop strategies to encourage new or increased contributions. Direct or coordinate web-based fundraising activities by working with relevant teams. Manage any volunteers that help with these responsibilities. Create innovative ways for donors to donate such as the collection of coupons to be used by our volunteers for shopping. Find creative ways to reduce costs or increase the buying power of donations. Develop ways to connect with the community by organizing events and work with relevant teams to promote, conceptualize, deal with vendors, and successfully execute. Manage funds and human resources allocated for events.


Social Media Management: Social Media is a hot topic for companies over the past 3-5 years, yet many of them don’t have a clear understanding of what effective social media relations look like. This team of interns will work together to manage Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and the company’s blog. Interns will learn principles behind effective social media management and work with the other teams within the company to execute projects. Tasks for the Internship: -

Manage the Facebook, Twitter, Youtube pages of the company. Publish on the company’s weekly blog that updates people inside and outside of the company of what is going on. Work with the other teams within the company to efficiently execute the company’s goals and objectives. Stay current with the latest trends in social media management. Create meaningful connections with the public through social media portals.

Desktop Publisher: This position offers interns the opportunity to learn and refine skills needed for the publication of documents to the public. The way that the content is displayed is equally as important as the contents themselves; we believe that a captivating message should be communicated in a visually interesting format. Tasks of the Internship: -

Check preliminary and final proofs for errors and make necessary corrections. Operate desktop publishing software and equipment to design, lay out, and produce cameraready copy. Position text and art elements from a variety of databases in a visually appealing way to design print or web pages, using knowledge of type styles and size and layout patterns. Convert various types of files for printing or the internet, using computer software. Transmit, deliver or mail publication master to printer for production into film and plates. Study layout or other design instructions to determine work to be done and sequence of operations. Enter digitized date into electronic prepress system computer memory, using scanner, camera, keyboard, or mouse. View monitors for visual representation of work in progress and for instructions and feedback throughout process, making modifications as necessary. Import text and art elements such as electronic clip-art or electronic files from photographs that have been scanned or produced with a digital camera, using computer software. Collaborate with graphic artists, editors and writers to produce master copies according to design specifications.
