The broadcasts feature pregame and postgame interviews, hosted by the “voice” of the Diamond Dogs, Jim Ellis, and Bart Gregory, who joined the MSU baseball broadcast team in 2012. Radio broadcasts of Bulldog Baseball got their start in the 1960s on Starkville radio sta on WSSO thanks to the work of the late Joe Phillips, a pioneer in radio broadcas ng in Mississippi. The MSU baseball stadium press box is named in honor of Phillips. But credit for turning the single-sta on broadcast into an impressive collecon of radio outlets blanke ng the Magnolia State goes to veteran MSU sports broadcaster, Jim Ellis, who in 2013 enters his 35th season of describing the exploits of the Baseball Bulldogs. A na ve of West Point, Miss., and 1969 MSU grad, Ellis coordinates the opera on of State’s baseball radio network. His voice is also a familiar one with State basketball and football fans. He also handles the play-by-play for MSU football and basketball a er having teamed on those broadcasts for more than three decades with MSU radio legend Jack Cris l. Bart Gregory, a na ve of Nanih Waiya, Miss., and a 1999 Mississippi State graduate, joined Ellis in the broadcast booth in 2012. He began his career in sports broadcas ng at the University of West Alabama in 2000 and returned to MSU the following year. While at MSU he ini ally broadcast women’s basketball games, select baseball games and hosted MSU football pregame and postgame shows and more recently joined Ellis on MSU basketball broadcasts. Gregory’s affilia on with the MSU athle cs family began in 2000 with his appointment as an account representa ve for the Bulldogs Sports Network. Since 2008 he has served in the Bulldog Club as Assistant Athle c Director for Annual Giving. The MSU baseball broadcast lineup also includes a weekly call-in radio show “DawgTalk”. The show begins an eight-week run in April and airs each Monday from 7-8 p.m. on affiliated radio sta ons in Mississippi. Listeners can call 866-998-4893 to par cipate in the show.
