The concept for this restaurant design is to create a comfortable environment.

In order to do so, biophilic features will be implemented throughout the space. The biophilic design increases occupant connectivity to the natural environment while improving physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being.

Ensuring natural light throughout the space can promote feelings of peace and relaxation and contribute to energy savings by reducing the use of artificial lighting (Yeh, 2014).

Incorporating colors that enhance the beauty of nature connects the user to the outdoors, boosting health and increasing comfort. To do so, receding hues of purple, blue, green, and various neutrals that mimic nature are used throughout the restaurant (Whitehead, 2021).

Living architecture, such as plants and greenery, are placed throughout the interior as it has been proven to decrease stress levels. Using plants in an interior space promotes indoor air quality and reduces thermal costs by shielding direct sunlight that causes glare and heat build-up (Coster, 2015).

The use of natural lighting, neutral colors, and living architecture will increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment, providing a sense of comfort to the customers.

CONCEPTSTATEMENT

Amis to create a supportive and comfortable home for an elderly couple using the comfort theory. The furniture and fixtures will be appropriately sized, and assistive built-ins will be incorporated discreetly to promote independence and dignity. Removing unnecessary features such as thresholds and installing sliding doors that can be easily opened and closed will enhance accessibility and ease of movement throughout the home. Soft lighting and soothing color schemes will promote a calming and comforting atmosphere. This design aims to create a home that meets the functional needs of the elderly couple while also promoting their emotional well-being and overall quality of life. Incorporating comfort theory can create a supportive and welcoming environment that the elderly couple will enjoy for years.

UNIVERSALDESIGN

FlexibilityinUse: The design is adaptable to a wide range of individual preferences and abilities.

Size and Space for Approach and Use: Adequate space is provided for approach, reach, manipulation, and use, regardless of the client's body size, posture, or mobility. Simple, Intuitive Use: The design is easy to understand and use, regardless of the client's experience level.

Tolerance for Error: The design minimizes hazards and reduces the negative consequences of accidental or unintended actions.

Low Physical Effort: The design can be used efficiently and comfortably with minimal fatigue or strain.

CONCEPTSTATEMENT SITEANLAYSIS

My office concept statement is to create productive environments based on Evidence-based design.

To create a productive environment, natural lighting in the workplace has consistently shown that sunlight positively affects workers’ subjective wellbeing (Silbester & Konstantinou, 2013).

Having plants in the office reduces stress, cleans the air, and helps to reduce noise levels (Chignell, 2021).

Height-adjustable desks help reduce workers’ fatigue (Neuhaus, 2014). Open office plans provide an environment that increases work efficiency and facilitates communication (Tonya & Katherine, 2009).

CONCEPTSTATEMENT

To create a sustainable environment and emphasize the importance of a user experience approach based on research and analysis.

In order to do so, the project will use eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient lighting, and IEQ strategies in accordance with the LEED reference guide. The design will incorporate features such as a welcoming atmosphere, optimized traffic flow, stainless steel materials to prevent contamination with hair dye, and convenient amenities for customers.

MATERIALSELECTIONS

Aim to create an environment that promotes sustainability by utilizing natural and recycled materials.

To achieve this, incorporate a clay plaster finish for the ceiling, walls, and floors to create a warm and textured natural and eco-friendly ambiance. Use recycled materials and certified wood furniture, promoting sustainability and creating a unique and stylish aesthetic. Additionally, use stainless steel for its durability and sleek modern look. By carefully selecting these materials, we can reduce our carbon footprint and minimize waste while creating a calming and tranquil space in harmony with nature.

RESEARCH

USER EXPEREINCE

Investigate Question

How to create a functional space for a salon?

How to develop practical salon interiors that attract more customers?

User experience design focuses on the user's overall experience and aims to construct a human-centered environment.

Experience design has the potential to positively impact the psychological state of users, enhancing reliability, satisfaction, and comfort in the environment.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

Investigate Question

• What are the social benefits of sustainable design?

• How to implement sustainability in retail?

Sustainable design seeks to minimize negative impacts on the environment and people’s health and comfort while maximizing positive impacts on environmental, economic, and social systems.

LEED certification is a global solution that recognizes performance in six fundamental human and environmental health areas and can help reduce environmental stress in new and existing buildings.

Consider the perspective of the end user and implement their needs in the design and functionality.

Craft a space that promotes natural and effortless interactions for customers, even in limited areas.

Introduce an air circulation system to remove heavy odors from dyeing products and maintain air quality.

Opt for stainless steel materials to prevent contamination from products like hair dye.

CONCEPTSTATEMENT

The transition to remote work has resulted in significant upheaval in numerous individuals' equilibrium between work and personal life. This architectural endeavor strives to foster a harmonious coexistence between residential and commercial domains utilizing meticulous transitions and an intelligently designed layout. By prioritizing sustainability and drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the Navajo people, the tower embodies a fusion of local, natural, and recycled materials, evoking the distinctive topography of the Southwest region.

NAVAJOHISTORY

The Navajo are the second most populous of the Native American people, primarily settled in the Southwest region of the United States - mainly New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. Their transition into the arts was from the influence of Pueblo Indians with their practices of painting pottery and weaving.

The domestication of sheep made for a steady supply of wool to construct fabrics on a large scale with large upright looms. Today, woven Navajo rugs, blankets, and clothing are highly sought after as they are some of the most colorful and well-made Native American textiles.

MATERIALS

Using materials honoring traditional Navajo values such as unity and respect for nature, Nizhoni incorporates the warm and wild beauty of the Southwest desert region by displaying local products. The facility is finished with elements of the Southwest ranch style, which includes Sandstone, stained concrete, and other materials that reflect the warm colors that influence Navajo weaving patterns. Porous and unfinished surfaces were sealed to prevent bacterial growth.

Local materials unite Nizhoni with its purpose of sustainability and connecting with the community and natural surroundings.

BRANDING

“Nizhoni” in the Navajo language means beautiful, which describes the products in the textile shop. Nizhoni brings the beauty and culture of Navajo textiles to the community through products that are organic, handmade, and rich in history. Textiles are woven with the traditional process and made to stand the test of time. Colors and geometric patterns add serenity and excitement to any home’s design. The Nizhoni logo is a display of colors that represent energy (red), strength (black), purity (white), and harmony (green).

Shipping containers will be placed parallel and adjacent to one another. The building will serve as a residence and a commercial space, with limited shared areas.

The showroom is designed to promote 6 feet of physical distancing. An open showroom plan promotes ease of accessibility.

A large glass wall in the showroom and looming area features a geometric Navajo design and brings natural light.
