Our International Curriculum

Kindergarten, from 2 - 6 years old

IEYC – The International Early Years Curriculum is provided by Fieldwork Education (United Kingdom). IEYC gives the children the opportunity to develop their creativity freely, encouraging their curiosity and unlimited interest for learning through a theme-based method.

Primary, from Grade 1 – Grade 5

UK National Curriculum Primary programme is a perfect choice for children to begin their exciting learning journey. This curriculum offers a solid foundation of knowledge for students right from the first school years.

Grade 6 – 8

Students enter our lower secondary programme after completing their primary school education. The Lower Secondary programme provides students with the skills and knowledge to navigate the ever-so-changing world that they are living in. But equally as important, this educational phase provides students with the rigor, motivation, and confidence to transition into the upper secondary programme, where they complete their IGCSE.

At Him Lam International School Bac Ninh, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum in order for students to build on their skills and knowledge. In Grades 9 and 10, students start the two-year programme leading to externally set, marked, and certificated examinations from the University of Cambridge (04 compulsory subjects and 3 optional subjects).

Any student who takes an IGCSE subject will gain a qualification that is recognised globally. They have established qualifications that keep pace with educational developments and trends and so are an ideal foundation for higher level courses such as AS and A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

At grade 11 – 12, students have the possibility to choose between IB DP (The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) or A level (General Certificate of Education Advanced Level) depending on their wish and study path. These are among the most reputable international diploma certificates, offering students the chance to apply to the highest top-ranking universities around the world.

Integrated Programme

About the Integrated Programme

The Integrated Programme of Him Lam International School Bac Ninh is built on Vietnam National Curriculum (by the Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training) and the school's International Programme.

The Integrated Programme is designed to meet the needs of our Vietnamese students and it is integrated with English-language subjects. In this programme, students' learning outcomes will be tailored firmly to their home country but will also allow students to respond well internationally in those subjects taught in English.

Our Integrated Curriculum

Him Lam International School Bac Ninh's Integrated Programme is suitable for students who wish to follow the Vietnam National Curriculum and improve their knowledge with integrated subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and ICT.

Through the integrated programme, students will have a solid knowledge base in accordance with the standards of the Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training and also the opportunity to study the key themes within our international programs such as:

• Kindergarten, from 2-6 years old: The International Early Years Curriculum - IEYC.

• Primary, Grade 1-5: UK National Curriculum for Primary.

• Secondary, Grade 6-9: UK National Curriculum for Lower Secondary & IGCSE Year 1.

• High School, Grade 10-12: International Test Preparation (Ex.: IELTS, SAT/ACT, …).

Students will be continuously trained throughout the period of study from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their dynamic learning results through activities such as reports, exhibitions, science projects, and reports.

Student Pathway

Choosing the right pathway for final school years is a critical part of any student’s portfolio. Our student pathway is designed with the goal of flexibility, serving students of all academic capabilities, and distinctive future plans.

Option 2: IB Diploma Programme

Option 1: AS Level and A Level

AS and A Level subjects are taught by fully trained teachers. Typically for 16–18-year-olds, Cambridge Advanced builds on the foundations of Cambridge Upper Secondary and leads to entry to universities worldwide. Teachers support students in developing a range of skills that include, critical thinking, decision-making, design thinking, collaboration, compassion, and reflection.

Students typically study four subjects at AS Level and three subjects at A Level.

Option two allows students to take the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP).

During the Diploma Programme, students pursue concurrent studies and sit for end-of-year exams, in six academic areas, which are broadly defined as:

• Language A (generally, the student’s first language)

• Language acquisition

• Individuals and societies

• Science

• Mathematics

• The Arts

During the two years of the Diploma Programme, a student has to finish 6 courses. They must choose one course in each of the first five subject groups and the sixth course from any of the groups (except Mathematics). Each student needs to take at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher-level (HL), and the remaining at standard-level (SL).

Option 3: Vietnam National High School Diploma

For students in the Integrated Programme, the study pathway will follow closely to the National Curriculum by the Vietnam's Ministry of Education & Training.

From the 2022 school year, high school students will study 12 subjects, including 7 compulsory subjects and 5 elective subjects.

07 required subjects include: Literature; Maths; Foreign Language 1; Physical Education; Defense and Security education; Experiential Activities, Regional Education.

05 elective subjects: Students choose 5 subjects from 3 groups of subjects (each group needs to have at least 1 subject)

• Social Science: History, Geography, Economics & Law Education

• Natural Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology

• Technology and Art: Technology, Informatics, Art

At the end of grade 12, students will take the high school graduation exam in accordance with the standards of the Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training. In addition to the national high school diploma, students of Him Lam International School are also equipped with knowledge and test preparation for international certificates such as IELTS, SAT, ... Students will then be qualified for admission to national and international universities.

Meeting with the academic advisor

When students reach Grade 8, each individual student will meet with the academic advisor along with their parents. Our passionate advisors work diligently with each student to understand their expected outcomes and map out a clear pathway that fits with their individual capabilities and future goals.

At Him Lam International School Bac Ninh, English is the official language to be used in all written, verbal, office, and classroom communications.

To further aid students of varying levels in their pursuit to learn and/or enhance their English skills, the school gives significant emphasis on the ESL programme. In Him Lam International School Bac Ninh, students are served a varied menu that provides choices to suit individual tastes. Him Lam International School Bac Ninh fully understands the importance of food hygiene and a healthy eating lifestyle, therefore; students are well encouraged to make sensible choices during the meal.

Transportation

School buses are monitored to transfer students to and from the school in the morning and in the afternoon. The students are all required to wear a seatbelt during traveling. There is also a bus monitor with a mobile phone (for emergency cases) to escort students on each bus.
