The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ Pre-Preparatory School Nurturing Excellence

Open Day Invitation Pre-Preparatory Open Day Saturday 10 November 2018 by appointment only

Mrs Vicky Peck, Head of Pre-Preparatory School will welcome you The Pre-Preparatory School opened in September 2007. It is situated on Hazel Road, Park Street, St Albans in its own woodland campus, six miles north of our Elstree site. It provides 72 boys aged between 5 and 7 with a safe and secure environment in which to thrive. Gaining a place at the age of 5+ is the beginning of a boy’s journey through Haberdashers’, and you can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome into the Habs family. The Pre-Preparatory School has four delightful and wellresourced classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, a kitchen and a catering team which provide a hot meal for each boy every day. The play areas include a large playground for activities, and an adventure climbing area surrounded by well-established trees.

Frequently asked questions How do I get there? There is a shuttle bus available to transport boys between our Elstree site and Park Street. A charge is made for this. For more information, please telephone the Transport Manager on 020 8266 1705.

Can I visit the Pre-Preparatory School? There are booked tours available throughout the year. Booking is essential. Please contact the Pre-Prep School on 02082661950.

5+ Pre-Preparatory School Entry – Assessment February 2018 Entry is for boys age 5 and below the age of 6 on 1 September in the year of entry. There are approximately 36 places at age 5+. Assessments take place in February/March of the year of entry and are conducted by members of the School’s teaching staff in a friendly and informal way.

How long is the School day? Registration is at 8.50am, although many children arrive from 8.30am for supervised time in the playground. Lessons are spread over the School day with a 15 minute mid-morning break and 75 minutes for lunch. School ends at 3.15pm.

How has your curriculum been developed? Our teaching combines the best elements of the National Curriculum with the extension tasks and enhancements that are a necessity for the able boys we teach. In both year groups there is an emphasis on numeracy and literacy, where we offer a broad range of activities. The curriculum covers the first two years of a six year programme that continues when the boys transition to the Preparatory School at 7+.

Are there any scholarships or bursaries available? No bursaries or scholarships are available for entry to the Pre-Preparatory School.

Can parents get involved in School life? There are many opportunities for parents to work in partnership with the School through regular social events. Parents are invited to join us at the annual Donkin Cup Cross Country Run, Sports Day, Swimming Gala, Winter Concert and Summer Production. We are always grateful to parents who accompany the boys on School trips!

Will my son be able to transfer to the Preparatory School and Senior School? Once a boy has been offered a place in the Pre-Preparatory School, he will automatically transfer to the Preparatory School in Butterfly Lane at the age of 7. We fully expect all boys in the Preparatory School to transfer to the Senior School in due course.
