Habitat Tucson was founded in 1980 and was the first of the Habitat for Humanity affiliates to build west of the Mississippi. The next year, we broke ground on our very first home, which was dedicated to the first Habitat Tucson family in 1982.

By 1990, Habitat Tucson had completed and sold 26 homes. The same year, our affiliate began global tithe efforts to help build homes in Haiti. Those efforts continue today, as we help 23 international families every year in countries like Mexico, Bangladesh and more.

Just a few years later, Habitat Tucson completed and dedicated our 100th home in 1997. It took just six more years to complete another 100 homes by 2003. The 300th Habitat Tucson home was completed and dedicated in 2009.

On September 11, 2002, Habitat Tucson hosted our first Building Freedom Day in remembrance of the lives lost in the events of 9/11/01. Habitat volunteers and partners continue to honor this day by building homes together.
