El exterior The Exterior Patio, piazza puertas y ventanas Patio, piazza, doors and windows Una característica preponderante de las casas isleñas es el hecho de estar ubicadas en medio de un patio, un espacio amplio al aire libre donde tenían lugar buena parte de las actividades y la vida doméstica. Por esta razón, la relación entre el interior y el exterior se considera la característica más importante en una casa isleña. De ahí que un rasgo notable de esta arquitectura isleña, en relación permanente con el exterior, sea que los patios de las casas estuvieran conectados entre sí. Las casas se agrupaban frecuentemente por grupos familiares o comunidades en los diversos sectores, de modo que no había divisiones entre lotes y muchas de ellas tenían su acceso por corredores peatonales en medio de ellos (especie de servidumbres): las calles-corredor de acceso. Es por esto que en la particular disposición y agrupación de las casas está escrita buena parte de la historia de las relaciones sociales de la comunidad.

A prevailing feature of the islander houses is the fact they are located in the middle of a patio, an ample outdoors space where most of the activities and domestic life took place. For this reason, the relationship between exterior and interior is considered to be the most important characteristic of an islander house. This is why an outstanding feature of this architecture, permanently related to the exterior, is that the patios of the houses were connected among them. Houses were put together frequently by family groups or communities in the various areas, so there were no divisions in the plots of land, and many of them had their entrance through pedestrian corridors in the middle of the plots (a type of easement): the access alleys. Therefore in the particular disposition and grouping of the houses is written good part of the history of the social relations of the community.
