he six delegates in this year’s India Guyana Worldwide contest were on Saturday evening sashed at an elaborate ceremony held at the Princess Ramada Hotel, Providence, East Bank Demerara. The delegates all sported outfits by Colours of India. The delegates – Shorona Haniff, Dianna Persaud, Rashena Sara Hanif, Sandeka Rampersaud, Hemwantie Seodat and Diana Ahmad – were all sashed by their respective sponsors. Meanwhile, the grand coronation is set for Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the Princess Ramada Hotel. They will compete in talent, indian wear, evening gown and intelligence. The Ishara Dance Group, the Nachgana Academy of Dance, the Jewan Ka Nritya Dance Troup are all expected to perform at the coronation. In addition, three past beauty queens will be honoured with the Women of Substance Award. The panel of judges will comprise well accomplished and empowered persons.

So far, several international artistes have confirmed to be part of the baccahanal and that will last from May 17-27. These events include boat rides, breakfast parties, day tours, J’Ouverts, cooler fetes and mega concerts. 3rd Annual Tassa Rama for Diamond Tarmac on Sunday

everal tassa groups are expected to square off on Sunday evening at the Diamond New Scheme Tarmac, East Bank Demerara, for the annual “Tassarama” organised in time for the commemoration of the arrival of East Indians to Guyana. The groups are from the East Bank, East Coast, West Bank and West Coast of Demerara. They all will be competing for cash and trophies. The inaugural event was organised by RB Dubraj Production and has since become an annual event that has seen scores of persons attending. This event promises to be very entertaining with a packed cultural show that will see live performances by the Nishal B, NYA, Retidevi and Shivanie Kumarie,
Arjit Singh, Reya Nandlall, Indi Balkaran, Tara Devi, Savatri Li and the Caribbean Hotshots Band. In addition, there will be the Farishtey Dance Troupe who will perform several routines. Rajesh Dubraj will also be making a special appearance. However, patrons can also enjoy Indian delicacies in abundance and partake in the mehendi designing camp as well as feast their eyes and dig into their wallets and purses at the extravageant exhibition and costume sale.
