Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis wins best boxer Pot sweetened for horse owners as Triple Crown excitement grows overall, parks Ferrari in the process Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis bullied his way to a first round TKO victory over the hapless St. Lucian Nathan Ferrari on Sunday night at the National Gymnasium, during the main bout of the Patrick Forde Memorial Open which was organised by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) in collaboration with McDonald’s Promotion. This was a rematch of the light welterweight finals of the Caribbean Development Boxing amateur tournament that punched off December last in the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia; Ferrari’s native land. And, ‘Superman’ proved that his victory in the island republic wasn’t a fluke and with support of the scores of cheering home fans that filled up the ring side admission and stands, he didn’t disappoint the Guyanese and the referee was forced to stop the contest in the first round. A straight right from ‘Superman’ Lewis that landed on Ferrari’s chin accounted for the first knock down. The St. Lucian composed himself after and fired some spirited blows in retaliation but the more dominant in form and attacking prowess, ‘Superman’, shrugged off the challenges and dealt a flurry of blows and winded Ferrari, gifting himself the TKO victory which was decided by referee Lawrence Assanah.

Guyana’s Keevin Allicock (left) lands a right on Jamal Eastman during one of the 14 bouts that punched off on Sunday night at the National Gymnasium. ‘Superman’ was awarded the Best Boxer elite and overall trophies. Meanwhile, Deeron Williams (school boy best boxer), Ravin Rodrigues (junior best boxer), Chris Moore (youth best boxer) and Alisha Jackman (female best boxer) also took home trophies and one year’s bragging rights from the event which is in its second annual year. Two of Guyana’s brightest prospects, Keevin Allicock and Desmond Amsterdam also improved their records on Sunday in exciting fashion. Allicock forced Jamal Eastman’s corner to throw in the towel in the second round, while the ref-

eree stopped the contest since Amsterdam’s onslaught on his opponent Kelvin Wielzen of Suriname could’ve been lethal. Local standouts, Chris Moore and Joel Williamson also ensured that Guyana sent back home the two other Surinamese, Toni Lin and Blond Pikienito with unanimous losses. The next local GBA event will be the National Novices set for next month. Head of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle and Technical Director, Terrence Poole, both shared the sentiments of a successful and well organised event which was experienced by all stakeholders.

Neymar injury mars PSG victory over Marseille PARIS, France (AFP) — Neymar was worryingly stretchered off with an ankle injury Sunday, marring Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 victory over Marseille that increased their Ligue 1 lead to 14 points. Just 10 days before the French leaders’ Champions League last 16, second-leg against Real Madrid, there was concern over the world’s most expensive player as Neymar was carried off 10 minutes from time. The 26-year-old was on his own when he innocuously rolled his ankle and flopped to the ground in pain. He was holding his head in his hands as he was taken off.It was an otherwise easy night for the big-spending Parisians as teenager Kylian Mbappe became the youngest scorer in the French ‘Classique’. Uruguayan goal-machine Edinson Cavani was also on the scoresheet while Neymar

Neymar was stretchered off the pitch with a right leg injury. had a hand in PSG’s other goal. With Monaco drawing 33 at Toulouse on Saturday and Lyon held 1-1 at home to local rivals Saint-Etienne earlier on Sunday, it meant none of PSG’s three nearest challengers managed to win. Monaco remain second with Marseille third, two

points behind, and Lyon a further five adrift. This result was never in doubt and PSG coach Unai Emery even had the luxury of bringing off Mbappe, 19, after an hour to give Argentine international Angel Di Maria a half-hour run out — Emery may now be wishing he’d chosen to rest Neymar.
