James is officially day-today after straining his left groin during the Lakers’ victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. An MRI came back clean on Wednesday, but James is expected to miss a few games out of an abundance of caution. The veteran forward was injured Tuesday in L.A.’s 127101 upset win over the Warriors as he dribbled toward the basket and slipped. His right leg swung underneath him as he lost his footing, putting

pressure on his left leg and groin as he reached forward to try to maintain possession of the ball. “Obviously, we want him back soon as possible,” said Lakers coach Luke Walton. “But we also will be very cautious when we bring him back.” —Hall of Fame basketball coach Larry Brown has been fired by the Italian club Fiat Torino, the team announced. Brown, 78, compiled a 519 record in his first season with the Serie A team and was reportedly booed at home after Wednesday’s 96-79 loss to Sidigas Avellino. Elgar began walking towards the dressing room, but was called back when the onfield umpires conferred over whether the catch had been taken. It was sent to third umpire Joel Wilson with a soft signal of ‘out’, which called for conclusive evidence for the decision to be overturned. With only the two-dimensional images available, the West Indian decided there was enough doubt to change the decision. It was a potentially a gamechanging moment in the innings with South Africa on 16-1 at the time and struggling. GOOD FORTUNE Elgar and Amla capitalised on that good fortune and both would go on to make halfcenturies in a stand that would last 40 overs. Elgar (50) then handed a first test wicket to Pakistan part-timer Shan Masood when he had a swipe at a loose delivery and was caught by wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed. Theunis de Bruyn (10) was stumped offYasir Shah (1-20) trying to finish the game with quick runs and Du Plessis recorded a pair of ducks in the match when he attempted a hook off Afridi and was caught at fine leg. Pakistan skipper Ahmed focussed on his side’s poor batting, where they failed to pass 200 in either innings and lost their last nine wickets for 90 runs after tea on day two, as the major contributor to their defeat. “We are very disappointed in the batting, we had an opportunity to post a (bigger) target and we lost too many wickets in that session after tea,” he said. “We have good quality fast bowlers, but we have to put scores on the board. We will have to go away and work hard in the nets.” Scores: South Africa 223 (Bavuma 53,Amir 4-62, Afridi 464) and 151 for 4 (Amla 63*, Elgar 50) beat Pakistan 181 (Babar 71, Olivier 6-37) and 190 (Masood 65, Imam 57, Olivier 5-59) by six wickets.
