SPORTS LEARNING SPORTS SKILLS Keep your kiddo active this Spring with the Y’s assortment of sport programs, designed to help children find sports they love, develop their skillsets, and make friends along the way.

KIDS IN SPORTS The Y has partnered with Kids In Sports, a team of sports educators, who’ve created an expertly designed curriculum that is innovative, age-appropriate, and fun! Their multi-sport program for younger children grows with your child–from adult participation to separation classes. Older children learn the fundamentals of specific team sports, and at every age your child gains important life skills like taking instruction, working in groups, and sportsmanship. These classes begin to focus children on the principles of six sports (soccer, basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, and hockey), teaching fundamentals of sports moves and general game play rules.

Y-ADAPTIVE SPORTS In partnership with Backyard Sports Cares, this program is geared toward athletes with Special Needs. Each participant will be paired 1:1 with a middle or high school volunteer to learn soccer skills using a special education curriculum in a safe environment.

KIDS IN SPORTS SCHEDULE The YMCA of Greenwich offers over 18 Kids In Sports classes a week, on varying dates and times. We offer classes for the following age groups: 12-18 months 18 months – 3 years 3-4 years 4-5 years 5-6 years

FOR TWEENS & TEENS TWEEN/TEEN WELLNESS Health and fitness are important at any age. Our Teen and Tween Wellness programs are designed to encourage kids to create healthy habits and to develop and reach their fitness goals.

NON-CONTACT BOXING Learn the fundamental of boxing technique and selfdefense in our youth boxing classes. Improve strength, endurance, and athleticism while relieving stress and having fun.

STRENGTH CONDITIONING Strength training is the foundation of health, athletic performance, and body building. This class is for total beginners to intermediate lifters.

NON-CONTACT BOXING OPEN GYM A limited opportunity for our youth to practice skills learned in their boxing classes or for those that simply want to punch the bag. In this hour a wellness associate will monitor the room to ensure safe usage is followed. This is not a structure workout, but rather an opportunity for our youth to access a typical adult only space. Bring your own gloves!

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS Following the YMCA National Swim Instruction Program, our curriculum focuses on teaching water safety and comfort followed by stroke development. All lessons are held in our Alumni warm-water pool for 30 minutes with the exception of YOUTH levels 4-6 which are 45 minutes.

SWIM EVALUATIONS If you are not a member of the YMCA of Greenwich, or have not taken a class within the last session at our facility, a swim evaluation is necessary. Registration without an evaluation will result in non-refund. Evaluations take approximately 5 minutes. No evaluation needed for children under 3 years old (i.e. Parent & Child Classes). If you would like to schedule a swim evaluation, please contact Lauren Gaita, Aquatic Programs and Training Manager, at swimschool@gwymca.org.

LEVEL A1 & A2

LEVEL 4

Parents accompany children in Level A, which introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment through exploration and encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water.

Students develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

LEVEL B1 & B2

LEVEL 5

In stage B, parents work with their children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Students in stage 5 work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke.

LEVEL 1 In stage 1, students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

LEVEL 2 In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

LEVEL 3 students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

LEVEL 6 In stage 6, students refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

SWIM CONDITIONING This program is designed to provide swimmers with practice sets to support them with building confidence to take their swimming skills to the next level and prepare swimmers to try out for swim team. Practices include development of all 4 swim strokes, starts, turns, relays, diving and more! Practices will take place in the Olympic pool. This small group, learning environment will give swimmers a sense of what it feels like to be part of a team.
