The Eagles will again be playoff contenders in 2016. This season Meadowcreek will place its first area schedule as a program and will look to continue building. With a largely inexperienced defense due to graduation, Zach Roper and Eddie Grieco will have to carry the load on offense early in the year. Roper had 50 points (41 goals, 9 assists) last season, while Greico had 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists). The Hawks will be among the area’s best again this season. Mountain View Coach: Justin Callaway 2015 Record: 7-6 Returning starters: G Riley Brodgon, Sr.; A Mike Smith, Sr.; M Alek Traikovich, Jr. Other key players/newcomers: Wes Baker, Sr.; Kyle Baker, Sr.; Collyn Birkbeck, Sr.; Josh Primus, Sr.; Bryson Morales, Sr.; Chase Parker, Sr. Outlook: The Mountain View program continues to grow thanks to an influx of players from the Mountain View Athletic Association. Thirteen players on the Bears roster this season will have played youth lacrosse for MVAA. Last season the Bears were 7-6 overall, but just 4-6 in area games. Senior goalie Riley Brodgon, a Berry commit, will lead a large group of seniors looking to make a run at a playoff birth. Outlook: The youth movement will be in full effect for the Buford Wolves in their third varsity season. Buford has just three seniors on the roster, and several freshman will see significant playing time. Twins Connor and Grant Mitchell are already verbally committed to Ohio State despite never playing in a varsity game. The young group will help Buford take the next step as a program, but this season could be a learning experience for the young Wolves.

Parkview Coach: Dave Erwin 2015 Record: 9-8 Returning starters: M Josh Shields, Sr.; A Jason Hauch, So.; M Kyle Sahagian, Jr. Other key players/newcomers: M Stephen Burnett, Jr.; A/M Jake Stevens, Jr.; D Will Marshall, So.; A Will Pojunas, Jr. Outlook: The Panthers posted the first winning season in program history last season at 9-8, but missed out on the playoffs with a 3-7 area record. Parkview lost 10 players to graduation from last year but top player Josh Shields is back for his senior season. The midfielder scored 40 goals, had 56 assists and recorded 75 ground balls last season. As the lone senior Shields will have to help a young roster grow up quickly to build on last year’s success.

The Tigers won their last four games of the year in 2015 to post a program-best 12 wins. Last season, Archer allowed just 8.2 goals per season, thanks in large part to defender Chandler Hall. Gwinnett coaches named Hall the county’s defensive player of the year as she had 32 ground balls and forced 19 turnovers. Acher should be able to challenge for a playoff spot in its fifth varsity season. Brookwood Coach: Lauren Ollinger 2015 Record: 5-11 Returning starters: G Summer Jones, Sr.; M Masyn Power, Sr.; M Maecy Robertson, Sr.; M Avery Freeman, Jr.; A Mackenzie Miner, Sr.; D Jasia Mathieux, Jr. Other key players/newcomers: A Abby Durniat, Sr.; A Brook Curtin, So.; G/D Victoria Wysocki, Fr. Outlook: The Broncos went 3-3 in area games last season and will return six starters this spring. Leading scorer Avery Freeman is back after a record-setting sophomore season that included 52 goals and 104 draw controls. With five experienced seniors Brookwood could challenge for a playoff spot this season. Senior Emily Napierala — a Kennesaw State commit who scored 41 goals with 29 assists last year — also returns, as does junior Arizona State commit Kate Dougherty, who scored 40 goals and had a team-high 45 assists last season. Collins Hill will again be in the playoff mix, but how deep they go will hinge on the development of the defense and freshman goalie Madison Simmons. If fellow veterans Dominque Steele (Piedomont signee) Rachel Gage and Mary-Mikell Botting can hold down the fort in Gentry’s absence and help several juniors develop then the Wildcats should be able to push for that elusive playoff birth. North Gwinnett Coach: Lindsey Dalton 2015 Record: 16-3, area champions Returning starters: G Samantha Gladstein, Jr.; M Sidney Martin, Jr.; M Madeline Gorke, Jr.; M Haley Gorke, Jr.; M Elizabeth Blumthal, Jr.; M Lauren Friedman, Jr.; A Katie Knazek, Jr.; A/M Madeline Saylor, So.; A Shannon Costelloe, So.; A Samantha Chap, Sr. Other key players/newcomers: Kaitlin O’Brian, Fr.; Parker Nevels, Fr. Outlook: Despite a young roster, North Gwinnett went 7-0 in area play last season to reach the state playoffs. The Bulldogs advanced to the second round — defeating Newnan 19-4 in the first round — before falling

to Lassiter. The majority of the Bulldogs roster returns this season, including the talented junior quarter of midfielder Haley Gorke (Arizona State commit), midfielder Madeline Gorke, midfielder Elizabeth Blumthal and goalie Sam Gladstein (Kennesaw State commit). North will be the favorites in the area and looks to reach new heights in the state playoffs for Gwinnett schools. Wesleyan Coach: Anna Myrick 2015 Record: 10-7 Returning starters: A Sydney Weissman Sr.; A Marti Duke, Sr.; A Anna Brown, Sr.; A Lindsey Hayes, So.; Kat Hughes, So.; D Mary Cowart, Sr. M Gabby Hernandez, Jr.; D Ashlee Fincher, Sr.; A/M Molly Bradach, So. Other key players/newcomers: A Chloe Hangartner, Fr.; M Grace Kennedy, Fr.; D Elise Harper, Fr.; D Tabitha Conrad, Fr. Outlook: Wesleyan finished third in the area last season to reach the state playoffs, falling to state runner-up Westminster in the first round of the Class A-AAAAA tournament. Replacing goalie Meredith DiStatsi will be no easy task for the Wolves. Leading-scorer senior Sydney Weissman returns to lead the Wesleyan offense. Last year she was all-state honorable mention as she scored 57 goals with a school-record 35 assists.
