Hunt

•From Page 1A Angee have decided to hang up their bunny ears. Saturday marked the last hunt they plan to host at their Snellville home. “It’s not as easy as it used to be,” Tom Hunt said. “It’s just gotten to be a lot of work so, after 30 years, we decided that this year would be a good stopping point.” The last get-together was bittersweet for Angee Hunt. “This is a good group of people and it’s people we’ve known for years or who know someone who’s been here in the past,” she said. “Everybody’s had fun and everybody’s made friends here.” Over the years, the hunt has become a tradition for many families. People who once came to the annual event as kids have grown up and now bring their own children to enjoy the fun. They, in turn, got Angee Hunt to invite other friends. Business associates got invites, too. It just grew over the years. “It was a privilege to get an invitation,” said Tom Embry, Crystal Pierce’s father. “It’s not quite Studio 54, but it’s close.”

The news that this year would be the last hurrah brought out the biggest crowd the Hunts have ever seen. There were about 200 people on the couple’s three acre property, including about 75 children who scavenged the grounds for 3,000 eggs. “We wouldn’t have missed this last one,” said Dahlonega resident Rebecca Jackson. “I’d drive from another

vor, said they now know someone. Principal Ben Pope is also a survivor. At age 15, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and for two years had radiation and other treatments. “I made it through, and am better for it,” he said. A video that featured survivors from Riverside provided an inspiration that resonated with students, Franks said. “We wanted something to help the kids understand what this is actually all about,” she said. The idea to put on the event came from staff at Harris Elementary in Duluth, which has previously put on a similar mini-Relay for Life event and shared that experience with Franks. “I said, ‘We want to do that,’ and it just built and built, and snowballed,” Franks said. “We live in this community where they are able, and they do.” Members from the Suwanee community also donated 3,000 gloves for the “happy dance,” and sand to fill bags for luminaries.
