CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY: GSU offers students the opportunity to gain hands on experience with laboratory equipment such as Rotary Evaporators, IR Spectrometers, NMR Spectrometers, Auto Titrators, and Gas Chromatography Systems to name a few!

CUTTING EDGE FACILITIES: The Department of Chemistry is housed in PSC, the Science Annex, the Natural Science Center, Petit Science Center. Pet-it Science Center, Kell Hall, and the Natural Science Center feature teaching labs, offices, service modules, and research laboratories. Major facilities include a state-of-the-art high-field regional NMR core facility with 300, 500 and 600 MHz NMR spectrometers as well as three Bruker (400,500 and 600 MHz) spectrometers with the 500 MHz instrument equipped with a cryoprobe.

Currently more than 600 undergraduate Chemistry majors are enrolled. Our Undergraduate Office, is designed to be more than just a place for academic advisement. We want to be your home department and shepherd you through your challenging undergraduate years. The campus-wide pre-med advisor, Dr.

Biacore instruments, one quartz crystal microbalance (QCM-D), mass spec, bead sorter for combinatorial chemistry, ITC and DSC instruments. Compound separation and analysis is achieved via HPLC, FPLC, cen-trifugal partition chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, LC-MS and GC-MS. The depart-mental NMR Facility is managed by a full time Ph.D. as is the departmental Mass Spectrometry Facility. Instrumentation shared with the Biology Department includes environmental rooms as well as a centralized DNA and peptide synthesis and analysis facilities.

Award Winning Recognition STUDENTS

The Chemistry Department has a very dynamic faculty conducting cutting edge research at the interface of chemistry, biology, and biophysics. Several faculty members are actively involved in research in the areas of biophysics, computational chemistry, protein design, protein dynamics, enzyme catalysis, drug design, nucleic acid structure and function, NMR imaging, and hydrodynamics. The Chemistry faculty have an outstanding level of external grant funds and publications. The Department, in spite of being one of the smaller units of the University, consistently ranks near the top in external grant support and publications.

Whether they are co-authoring papers, awarded scholarships, winning fellowships, or presenting research, Georgia State University Chemistry majors have attained limitless heights! The Department of Chemistry at Georgia State University faculty is devoted to teaching and working with both undergraduate and graduate students while helping them achieve their goals. A wide variety of programming is available for students interested in research. Dynamic faculty represent opportunities for a wide array of cutting edge research interests.
