time with her children, Caylon and Braylon Mike. She specializes in

teaching children and teens to express their feelings to their parents,

Chapter Title: Familiarity Does Not Breed Greatness

In this chapter, I will discuss how doing the same thing does not yield great results. If someone desires to achieve more, more must be done. In all areas of life, it is important to recognize that you can be great. Sometimes that road is lonely and difficult; however, it is necessary to yield the results you desire. Most importantly, walking in purpose is not for everyone. Your purpose belongs to you and you only. How you choose to get there is the hard part!

Shanelle B. Fields was born on Halloween to Rev. Monroe Fields, Sr. and the late Barbara H. Jones in Florence, SC. Her first assignment was to be a big sister to Monroe Fields, Jr. who would make his appearance five years later. Ms. Fields was educated at both Florence Christian Schools and in Florence School District One. Ms. Fields always had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader. She enjoyed going to school and excelled in academics. Her parents had her reciting Bible verses and Easter speeches until she was 15 years old!

After completing high school, Shanelle matriculated to the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, and received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Secondary English Education. Her first job was teaching in Charleston County School District and she has been educating students for over 17 years. Continuing her love of knowledge, she furthered her education at the Citadel Military College of SC, to earn a Master’s Degree in Secondary Counselor Education. It is at this point that she found her calling of helping others find solutions to their problems. After her Master’s Degree was completed, she began working as a Professional School Counselor and found her niche.

Even with a busy three-year old, Shanelle found the time to complete a lifelong dream, and on March 15

th, 2014, she completed her doctoral degree in Counseling Studies from Capella University. In November 2018, Dr. Fields completed the requirements to become a Licensed Professional Counselor and is still committed to helping young people and adults become successful. Her practice, Taking the First Step Counseling & Educational Services, LLC is located in Summerville, SC. As an LPC, she works with others on increasing self-esteem, grief, anxiety, depression, positive educational outcomes, and women’s issues.
