BookandBarScholarships
In 1993, GWAC established a charitable arm - the GWAC Foundation, Inc. ("the Foundation "). The Foundation received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service in 1995. That same year,GWACprovidedtheFoundationwithitsoriginal endowment,whichithasmorethantripledinthepast five years. The work of the Foundation is performed entirely by volunteers with no paid staff. The Foundation awarded two $500 book scholarships to two deserving law students to alleviate some of the financialpressuresofpursingalawdegree.
AWoman ' sWorkCampaign
Forthesecondyear,theGWACFoundationhostedits "AWoman ' sWork" campaign,acampaignintendedto galvanize support for Black women-owned businesses in the Washington, DC area and to provide scholarships to Black women law students and alumnae.
This year ' s campaign took place from March 27 to April9andfeatured10businesspartners.Thepartners donated a portion of their sale proceeds to the Foundation.Since2020,theFoundationhasawarded7 scholarships. Through the proceeds received, the Foundationwillbeabletoexpanditscharitableefforts inproviding muchneededfinancialassistance.
