GWAC hosted its 34th Annual Charlotte E. Ray Award Ceremony on February 17, 2022, where GWAC honored and celebrated GWAC Past President and Chairperson for the D.C. Board of Ethics and Government Accountability Norma Brown Hutcheson. Since 1989, the GWAC and the GWAC Foundation have recognized an outstandingAfrican-AmericanwomanfromthelocalbarinhonorofCharlotteE.Ray, thefirstwomanadmittedtopracticeintheDistrictofColumbiaandthefirstAfricanAmericanwomancertifiedasalawyerintheUnitedStates.Inkeepingwiththemission of GWAC and the trailblazing spirit of Charlotte E. Ray, awardees demonstrate a strongcommitmenttocommunityinvolvement,mentorship,advocacy,andexcellence intheMetropolitanWashingtoncommunity.

GWAC' s Dinner series provides opportunies to its members to engage and network with Washington DC' s most prominent women attorneys and community leaders. This year ' s series included Magistrate Judge Robin M. Meriweather of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Author and Professor Kristin Nicole Henning of Georgetown University Law Center and Rage of Innocence, DC Councilmember Christina Henderson, and General Counsel for the National Endowment for the Arts, India Pinkney, who was the first Black to hold the position and the first U.S. attorney in the Legal Bureau of the United Nations ' International Civil Aviation Organization.
