Taylor powers Windies Women to ODI series sweep over Sri Lanka TAROUBA, Trinidad (CMC) – Irrepressible skipper Stafanie Taylor produced another telling all-round performance as West Indies pulled off a comfortable 40-run win in the final One-Day International to sweep their three-match series against Sri Lanka Women here Sunday. Sent in at the Brian Lara Stadium, the Caribbean side rallied to 182 for eight off their 45 overs, with Taylor stroking a top score of 55, opener Hayley Matthews getting 41 and former captain Merissa Aguilleira gathering an unbeaten 37. worth in gold with the ball, snatching three for 29 with her off-spin to send the visitors crashing to 142 all out in the 41st over. Fast bowler Shakera Selman also struck form, grabbing three for 30. Dilani Manodara topscored with 42 with Rebeca Vandort scoring 34. In a contest reduced to 45

overs per side, the Windies suffered an early setback when Kycia Knight was dismissed cheaply (5) with the score on eight in the fourth over. However, Taylor and Matthews then came together in an 83-run, second-wicket stand to prevent the possibility of collapse. The right-handed Taylor faced 82 balls and counted seven boundaries while Matthews, also a right-hander, struck four fours in a 75-ball knock. Matthews’ dismissal triggered a slide that saw four wickets fall for 30 runs and it took a 29-run sixth-wicket partnership between Aguilleira and Kyshona Knight (14) to rally the innings. Aguilleira’s knock was a crucial one as she hit three fours in a busy 42-ball innings.

RHTYSC launches U-12 cricket team THE Cricket Development Committee of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, continues to unveil new initiatives as the club strives to remain the leading cricket club in Guyana. The club last Wednesday entered a one-year sponsorship deal worth $150 000, with King Solomon Logistics of Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam to form an Under-12 cricket team. Dubbed the Rose Hall Town King Solomon Logistics Under-12 team, Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the initiative will enable the club to reinforce its junior section as it seeks to introduce youths to the game at a younger age. Organising Secretary Keith Hicks and his assistant Ravin Kissoonlall will be in charge of the team. The team is expected to play matches against schools and clubs in Berbice. Further the team will have two practice days per week, while special classes will be organised once a week to educate them about the game, among different topics. It is expected that most of the players will be drawn from the Rose Hall Town Primary School. However, students from the Port Mou-

Membership to the club is free, and all members are to make sure that they fulfil their potentials not only on the cricket field but also in the classroom. The team, under the one-year deal will also be required to organise and host a total of twenty personal development programmes, such as meals for the elderly, hampers for less fortunate families, educational events, fitness

walks, toys for children at Christmas and assistance to their peers to stay in school by providing educational materials. Foster is expected to work along with the team to make sure that all the programmes are successfully completed. Foster expressed gratitude to Tiffany Asregado, Manager of King Solomon Logistics, Asregado, speaking on behalf of King Solomon Logistics, stated that her company was delighted to be associated with the club and expressed confidence that the Under-12 team will be an outstanding representative of her company’s brand.

afloat. She put on 33 for the third wicket with Yasoda Mendis (18), 20 for the fourth with Hasini Perera (8) before adding a further 30 for the fifth with Vandort, to push her side up to 101 for four. Manodara had faced 85 deliveries and struck two

fours when she was caught and bowled by Matthews in the 32nd over, leading to a slide which saw the last six wickets perish for 41 runs. Both teams will now turn their attention to the three-match Twenty20 series which starts in Antigua on Thursday.
