Haddin withdraws from Lord’s Test
PETER Nevill will become Australia’s 443rd Test cricketer after veteran gloveman Brad Haddin ruled himself out the second Test against England at Lord’s, beginning tomorrow, for family reasons. Haddin did not take part in Australia’s lengthy training session at the Home of Cricket yesterday morning but, having completed his team’s warm-up at the famous ground, he remained in the visiting team’s dressing room where he was seen in earnest discussion with coach Darren Lehmann. By contrast, 29-year-old Nevill was conspicuous by the amount of work he did with the gloves and with the bat, although confirmation of Haddin’s sudden absence
did not arrive until hours after the session had been completed

and the team had returned to their London hotel. Nevill will become the first Australia Test player to receive his Baggy Green cap at Lord’s since current vice-captain Steve Smith and another former ’keeper Tim Paine both made their debut there against Pakistan in 2010. And they were the first Australians to do so in more than 30 years Contrary to rumours sweeping Lord’s earlier in the day as a series of mini conferences were held among Australia players and support staff at the nursery nets, Haddin will remain with the team in London. However, a CA spokesperson said he would not be making any further comment on the matter.
NOTABLE DATES FORMER World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Association (IBA) junior welterweight champion Guyanese `Vicious’ Vivian Harris was going through a lean period when he challenged Lanardo Tyner on July 15, 2011. Harris had secured only one in his six previous fights. The lean period started when the Guyanese lost to World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Junior Witter by a seventhround TKO in September 2009. Harris and Tyner were fighting for the vacant United States Boxing Organisation (USBO) welterweight title which the latter won via unanimous decision. Born Ivan Vivian Harris on June
17, 1978, Harris was crowned WBA welterweight champion in October 2002 following a secondround technical knockout (TKO) of champion Diosbelys Hurtado in Houston, Texas. He would have three successful defences but was then dethroned by little-known Colombian Carlos Maussa via seventh-round knockout in June 2005. Harris last fought in November 2014 when he challenged Mexican Ramon Alvarez for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) North American junior middleweight title. The Mexican was crowned champion when referee Ray Carona stopped the bout at 44 seconds of the seventh round.
“In the future, after the election, should there be any football stakeholder going to any ordinary court, he must be sanctioned and should there be any decision from any judicial authorities imposing something on the DFA, the case will be taken seriously by FIFA and CONCACAF, meaning that sanctions will come,” warned Corvaro as he met with the press late Monday. “You can’t leave the judicial system to take action, if that is done you can well imagine what will happen in that situation.” Corvaro has criticised the action by
MELBOURNE, Australia (Reuters) - Australia handed James Faulkner a four-match suspension yesterday after the all-rounder was charged with drink-driving in Britain this month. The player will miss a one-dayer and a Twenty20 international against Ireland next month as well as the first two ODIs against England in September. “Faulkner has been charged under the Code for Conduct that is unbecoming of a representative ...,” Cricket Australia (CA) said in a statement. “Given he will be unavailable for a significant component of that series, Faulkner will not be considered for the Australian T20 or one-day international squads when announced in mid-August.” The 25-year-old, Australia’s hero in their World Cup final triumph over New Zealand this year, may be considered as a replacement for an injured player following his JAMES FAULKNER suspension. Faulkner, who was playing for English county Lancashire at the time of the incident, will also undergo an alcohol management counselling programme. “James has acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and has accepted the penalties handed down today,” CA executive general manager of team performance Pat Howard said. “He has cooperated fully with the disciplinary procedure and is deeply remorseful. “In saying that, we do acknowledge that James has been a player with a good track record and we would like to think that this episode is very much out of character.”

Francis to take the DFA to court, saying such a move will not be tolerated by FIFA. He says FIFA plans to send officials to monitor the upcoming elections. “What has been done by Dexter Francis and others was not tolerated and will not be tolerated. We listened to the executive of the FA and we made them an exception, we are taking big risks. We have not accepted what has happened … let it be known that it will not be accepted in the future,” said the FIFA official. “I am warning that if there is another issue, don’t be surprised of the outcome.”
THE Guyana Police Force continued their community development drive with an Under-15 football tournament between the ‘A’ and ‘E’ Division sides last Sunday. The youthful Georgetown-based side, before their departure to the mining town, were given a rousing speech by ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken, who encouraged the them to put their best foot forward and display a high level of discipline. The game opened with an energetic display from both sides. However, the ‘A’ Division Commander’s Rising Star XI broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute of the game thanks to Joshua McAdam. The Wismar Valley side could not find the equaliser at the end of the first half after several chances. Nonetheless, a revitalised second-half performance from the hosts saw the conversion of a chance into the nets which brought the game level again. After numerous failed chances by both sides, the game ended 1-1. The Commander of ‘E’ Division, Senior Superintendent Mr Brutus, praised the youths for their dedication to the sport and urged them to take the opportunity being given by the Guyana Police Force to mould themselves into role models for the younger generation to emulate.
