UTRECHT SKY VIEW

Year: 2020 Software: Rhino, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop

Utrecht Sky View is a two-part design project based in London and Utrecht surrounding the concepts of scale, attraction, and interaction. In London, I mapped the “scale of attraction” of three user groups and translated it into a three-dimensional projection across St. Pancras Square. In Utrecht, I used my developed “scale tool” to introduce human-scale interventions unto the roof of Utrecht’s train station to encourage attraction and interaction with the otherwise overwhelmingly large space.

2. AN UNSINKABLE VILLAGE

FOR THE SINKING CITY Year: 2021 Software: Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign

An Unsinkable Village for the Sinking City is my honors thesis project, which researches urban 17 acupuncture solutions to better the livelihoods of spontaneous housing communities by the Ciliwung River in the fastest sinking city in the world: Jakarta, Indonesia. In this project, I conduct an in-depth research regarding issues pertaining to these communities and propose a three-part toolkit that prescribes 1) a reliable source of clean water, 2) trash management, and 3) soil management, to combat root causes of sinking and poor livelihood in the community without turning to forced eviction and demolition.

1st Place, Archivolks Competition

Universitas Pembangunan Nasional, Indonesia

Inspired by the theme, “healing through environment,” we created a system of individualized pods connected through pipes to allow for honest and anonymous communication in response to the shallow and judgemental conversations taking place during this time of pandemic. Tje location chosen for this project is the National Monument, a significant yet underutilized green space in Jakarta, Indonesia. Year: 2021 Groupwork with 1 partner Software: Rhino, Illustrator

4. DECRYPTING CORALS Year: 2019 Software: Rhino, Illustrator, Physical Model-Building

Deconstructing and reconstructing the Stokes Starlet Coral, I created a promenade for a vertical cave 29 (Gua Jomblang) located in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. I extracted several series of rules from a colony of corals and used the opening of the cave as a parameter to generate a coral-like structure with varied heights in accordance with the verticality of the member along the walls of the cave. The structure creates a dimension of height to the vertical cave while adding a new point of accessibility for visitors.

5. PARAMETRIC

CACTUS HOUSE

Year: 2019 Software: Rhino, Grasshopper, Illustrator, Physical Model-Building

This greenhouse encases a cactus nursery and waterfall. Nestled in between a pond and greenery, it 37 acts as a convex lens that transforms the visitor’s perception of what is outside. The two paths presented by the House allows visitors to explore the cacti lining the supporting pillars, or brings visitors closer to the water’s edge, where succulents line the waterfall.

Year: 2018 Skill: Physical Model-Building

This project was part of my research assistanship at the Polyhedral Structures Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, under mentorship of Professor Masoud Akbarzadeh. PSL developed a plug-in for Rhinoceros 3D in form-force optimization, and this model studied the effectivity of a parametric superstructure for a highrise skyscraper. The model itself consists of over 300 separate pieces and stands over three feet tall.
