The market is doing what it always does: burning bright and hot during the spring and taking a tiny dip while families make the yearly voyage to the beach or mountains following school’s summer break. If you are not taking the family vacation these first few weeks of June, and you are thinking about placing your home on the market, now is the time to give us a call. We are ready to help you prepare your home for those families who are returning from vacation, ready to find a place to call home before the next school year. If, however, you are shopping for a new home, now is also the time to give us a call and get out there to kick a few doors open while the buyer competition is lighter, due to all the beach and mountain goers. I am witnessing sellers selling for more when placing their homes on the market at “selling price” rather than “overpriced”. If you overprice your home, and it stays on the market very long, buyers and buyer’s agents wonder what is wrong with it. Buyers, if you are ready to buy, meet with a qualified and trusted lender, and be ready to act quickly when the right house comes along. Have your qualification letter, a strong earnest money offer and even think about writing the seller a letter about why you are making you offer.

With the Gusty Gulas Group Vestavia Chamber Luncheon Some members of the Gusty Gulas Group represented at this week’s Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce luncheon! We love being involved in the community! May’s program topic was “A Day in the Life of a Secret Service Agent,” with speaker Michael Williams. At the luncheon, US Secret Service Agent, Michael Williams, spoke about his experience while on the force. Williams gave an example of how the Secret Service agents responded when John Hinckley Jr. fired six shots at President Reagan in 1981. Williams went on to describe not only his experience in the Secret Service, both in Washington and in Miami, but also went through the history of the agency itself.

Helping a Veteran I recently had the pleasure of helping a veteran purchase his first home. This fine gentleman was being transferred to Birmingham from Charleston and had one weekend and one weekend only to find a house and get a contract secured. We spoke over the phone for about two weeks while pouring over houses on our laptops. Finally, he drove down on a Wednesday, and we started the search following morning. We looked at properties from Trussville to Pinson to Gardendale. The whole time, he was FaceTiming his wife back in Charleston with their two children. We finished our day in McCalla, where we made an offer on a property only to get beat by another offer. Friday morning began back in McCalla, where we made another offer on a home, only to find out that we would not get a reply until Monday, due to it being a corporate relocation property. After he enjoyed some local cuisine with my wife and I, we called it a night with plans to begin again the next morning. This time, he picked me up at my house, because he wanted to drive his new truck. We made our way back out to McCalla, and he wrote an offer on new construction. We finally had a contract!!! Driving away from the house after taking a picture with the sold sign, he looked over at me and told me he was the first in his family since his grandparents to buy a home. This is what it’s all about!
