What is Technical Writing? Technical Writing is a kind of technical communication, which is also considered the art of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical users in an easy manner. The person who uses this art is called a Technical Writer and that person has only one motto: to deliver difficult technical information in the easiest and simplest manner so that anyone can easily understand and implement that information in real life. Perhaps you download software from Internet but do not know how to use it. To know how to use the software, you open the software help and using that help manual, you are able to use the software. That help manual is the work of a Technical Writer. This way of spreading information is called Technical Writing. A Technical Writer is also called Document Writer or Document Developer whereas the documents prepared by him or her are called technical documents. Major industries where Technical Writers, Document Writers, and Document Developers work are Software

manufacturing companies, and other similar organizations. These industries & organizations hire technical writers for preparing various types of technical documents for their products so that the customers can easily operate the product. Most people think that a Technical Writers need to have some specific qualification. At this point, Technical Writers do not need any specific degree. The only thing he or she needs is good knowledge about his/her domain. Being a Technical Writer, I would like to say that a Technical Writer does need to be a software developer, web developer, electrical engineer, or mechanical engineer. One’s English should be flawless, concise, and clear. •

User guide: A Technical document using which an end user can effectively use the product like mobile phone, software, machine, home appliance, etc. When you (end user) buy a product, you get a booklet with it that helps you use the product flawlessly. That booklet is caller user guide, which is well structured. User guide pioneer an end user throughout to help the user use the product in an easiest manner.


Installation guide: A document that guides users to install a product is called an installation guide. For example, when you buy software, you get a help file attached with it using which you flawlessly install the software.

Resume: A resume is a candidate’s pioneer. It makes an entrance for a candidate in an organization. A resume represents qualities of a candidate. If your resume is well structured then it will attain more attention of recruiters and let you grab good working opportunities.

Learning material: You can also call it as study guide. Some of the examples of learning materials are- books, online tutorials, and question banks.
