By Destiny Brown The USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile is an adventure and history lesson for all ages. Come explore an establishment that is guaranteed to make a memory or relive one. “The USS ALABAMA and Battleship Memorial Park is a great military park,” said Rhonda Davis, Director of Sales and Marketing. “It allows families to step back into history and see what life aboard a battleship and submarine was like during WWII. Along with these mighty naval vessels, visitors can see and
learn about historic aircraft in the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion and ride our flight simulator. Touring is self-guided, so everyone can go at their own pace.” It is recommended to take two and a half hours to tour the entire park. The park opened January 1965 and has since been an attraction for people from all over. “After WWII, the USS ALABAMA was put in mothballs by the US Navy in Washington state, along with other battleships, to be used for her parts,” Davis said. “In 1964, an article appeared in the Mobile Press-Register announcing the plans by the Navy to scrap the USS ALABAMA.
