REAL ESTATE Broker Pre-Licensing Broker Pre-Licensing This is the required course you need in preparation to become a “provisional broker”. This course covers basic real estate principles and practices, including real estate law, contracts, brokerage practices, financing, closing, valuation, fair housing, property management, taxation, and mathematics as well as other related topics. To qualify for the IN-CLASS final exam, you MUST have a combined average score of 80% on the three mini-exams given during class. You may then take the final exam, and if you pass this, you are eligible to take the North Carolina Real Estate Commission exam that is required to become a licensed real estate broker. Textbook & materials are required and must be purchased from the campus bookstore where the course will be taught PRIOR to class. Real Estate Math The primary objectives of this course are to (1) provide you with the necessary skills to apply math in the real estate setting, and (2) to assist in preparing you for enrolling in the real estate Broker Pre-Licensing course. The real estate math course provides basic instruction in mathematics applicable to real estate situations. Topics include: finance calculations, interest, debt service, profit, loss, closing statements, property taxes, loan underwriting, appraisal calculations, and area computations. Upon completion, you should be able to demonstrate proficiency in applied real estate mathematics. This course is NOT a prerequisite but is extremely beneficial as a precursor to the Broker Pre-Licensing course, especially if math is not your strength. Textbook required and must be purchased from the campus bookstore where the course will be taught PRIOR to class. Note to students: It is recommended to take the Math class BEFORE taking the Broker PreLicensing class and NOT recommended to take them simultaneously.
