HEALTH & SAFETY COURSES Medication Administration Aide This course is designed to meet training requirements for the North Carolina Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares certified Nurse Aides to administer medications to long term care residents. Course topics include scope of duties; legal and ethical responsibilities; administration of medications by various routes; infection control; and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate and are then eligible to take the state competency exam administered under NC Division of Health Services Regulation. The Medication Aide employed in a long term care/skilled facility must have an active listing on the Nurse Aide Registry. **Medication aides who pass medications in long term/skilled nursing facilities should not be confused with medication technicians who pass medications in adult care settings such as assisted living or group homes. Additional Information: On the first day of class, you must present a copy of verification as a Nurse Aide in good standing on the NC Registry. This can be verified on line at https://www. ncnar.org/verify_listings1.jsp.

NA Training Refresher Course The NA Training Refresher Course is offered to enrollees who have (1) been listed or are currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry; (2) have successfully completed a state approved NA training program since July 2013; (3) hold a state recognized unencumbered health care credential (EMT, EMT-P, CMA, RN, LPN, etc.) from any state. Military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training may also enroll. This 50 hour course consists of a brief review of the NA I theory curriculum, selected NA I skills, and preparation for the state written and skill exams. Successful completion of this refresher course will provide individuals with a review of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be demonstrated on the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination necessary for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry. (Note: If you have taken the North Carolina NNAAP test three times within a two-year period, and failed, you must attend a state approved training program such as NA1 full course of the NA Refresher course. References to this rule may be found in the NC Nurse Aide I Candidate Handbook.) Additional Note: If your goal is to enroll in Nursing School, this course will NOT meet the required pre-requisite and you will need to take an accredited complete Nursing Assistant 1 course.)
