Expanding Potential Georgia Tech is growing in a lot of ways and that's a good thing. The vision is for the Institute to define the technological university of the 21st century. This is a bold vision that calls for new ways of thinking about the mission. One of the strategies being deployed by the leadership team is to expand our reputation globally through a series of initiatives aimed at positing Tech as a university with global reach. And this can provide terrific returns in the future. Recently I visited our Georgia Tech Lorraine campus in Metz, France. I met with some of the faculty there and also attended an alumni event in Paris where we had more than 100 alumni and friends of Tech. One theme is quite obvious for the future — collaboration with others. It's an imperative and it's been showing results in Metz for the 15 years that Georgia Tech Lorraine has existed. At our "Georgia Tech: Innovating Here and Now" symposium in March, an alumna from the audience questioned our faculty presenters about what makes Georgia Tech successful today. All three of them said it was collaboration. We're breaking down the barriers — internally across the disciplines, nationally like our work with Emory in bioengineering and biomedicine and internationally like our campus in Metz, our work in Singapore, our joint degree programs with Shanghai Jiao Tong. These efforts will enable us to provide our students with not only a globalized education but it will also make the value of your Tech degree rise more than ever. And that's a benefit that pays dividends over your lifetime.
