In his new position, Childers will be responsible for product development of all Kelvinator appliances. Leo T. Bowles, '48, has been appointed manager of the new "product planning and application engineering" sub-section of General Electric's Receiving Tube Department at Owensboro, Ky. Bowles has served as manager of product planning in the department since 1960. Howard Smith, '48, has been appointed supervisor of textile service in the southeastern division of National Starch and Chemical Corp. Smith has been with the company for 13 years and since 1960 he has been in charge of its textile service laboratory in Atlanta. James T. French, '49, has been elected national president of Alpha Pi Mu, the industrial engineering honor society for a two-year term. French was instrumental in the founding of the society at Tech in 1949 and has served it as executive secretary and national vice president. Dr. E. L. Pollitzer, '53, has been named assistant director of the process research department at Universal Oil Products Co., Des Plaines, 111. Pollitzer, formerly research coordinator for UOP, joined the company in 1953 after receiving his master's and Ph.D. degrees<c-from Tech. Herbert L. Ellis, '58, has been named "Young Man of the Year" in the field of religion by the Atlanta Jaycees. Ellis, placement director at Georgia State College, has been chairman of the Covenant Presbyterian Church's youth activities and is now a member of its Board of Deacons. 32
