Imagine yourself sitting next to a crackling campfire surrounded by new friends, singing songs and roasting marshmallows after a day of doing a fun activity, like canoeing or archery. Pretty amazing, right? There’s just something about camp that will stick with you for a lifetime. And if you’ve been to Camp Wasiu II before, we’re excited for you to come back for another summer of great adventures. You can also join us for an incredible week of Day Camp in Reno!

Volunteers Needed

Come make a difference at Camp Wasiu II! Any individuals (of any age!) interested in helping with our tasks are welcome, and we especially love folks who have carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, or painting skills. All meals, accommodations, and evening campfires are provided for free. Come for one day, all weekend, or anywhere in between. These are great service opportunities for troops and families! More than 1000 local youth will directly benefit from your hard work and dedication.

Outdoors & S’mores Mini-Session Camp is non-stop fun! Sleep in a tent, learn camp songs, go swimming, and build fairy houses with your new camp friends. Your camp experience wouldn’t be complete without roasting s’mores over a campfire. This program runs Sunday – Tuesday and is ideal for first-time campers.

Calling all fearless princesses! Welcome to the land of Wasiu-delle. Set off on a Frozen-themed quest just like Anna & Elsa and have adventures throughout camp. You’ll make your own royal costumes and sing lots of songs from the movie during this week at camp.

Where the Wild Things Are

Do you have a fantastic imagination? Come to camp and learn about the forest fairies and the friendly Horndribbles. You’ll make your own Felty Friends in arts & crafts and create your own fairy tale story with the help of your counselors. This is the program for you if you love make believe.

Do you love the water? Join us and go splashing around camp! Spend time playing pool games, go on a creek walk, and have a water balloon war. You’ll learn the basics of canoeing, too!

Bring a Buddy Mini-Session

Top Chef Let’s get cookin’! Compare indoor/outdoor cooking techniques at this delicious week of camp. Spend time in the camp kitchen and at the campfire as you perfect your skills. You’ll learn to make eggs in a paper bag, lasagna and spaghetti, and amazing desserts. This is the premiere cooking event of the summer! Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Junior Simple Meals badges.

Hiking Rocks 1.0 Time to hit the trails! Head to nearby Frazier Falls and Graeagle for some cool outdoor adventure. You’ll learn to light a one-match campfire while sleeping out for a night at a nearby lake. Unlace your boots back at Wasiu II to swim, do arts & crafts, and more. Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Junior Camper badge. Campers must bring proper hiking footwear and a daypack to participate in this program. No hiking experience necessary, but must be able to comfortably walk 1 – 2 miles on rolling terrain.

Moonlight Madness Stay up late at camp and have fun in the dark while everyone else is sleeping! You’ll have fun with glow-in-the-dark slingshots, have a Midnight Party, and then enjoy sleep-in breakfasts. In order to enjoy this program, campers should be able to stay up until 10 p.m. without issue.

Sharpen your skills with a bow and arrow! This program is all about “taking aim.” You’ll spend time each day at the archery range and even tackle target practice with slingshots and paint balloons. Can you hit a bulls-eye by the end of the week?

Love to swim and boat? This program guarantees you lots of extra time at the pool. You’ll get to canoe and stand-up paddle board at the lake, too! Your group also gets to help plan the Wasiu II Water Olympics.

Lights, Camera, Action! Are you into drama, music, acting, or dance? Here’s your chance to shine as you write, rehearse, and perform your own show for all of camp. You’ll also get to experiment with stage make-up, take a modern dance class, and make your own props. Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Junior Practice with Purpose and Musician badges.

Around the World

Meet amazing counselors from other countries and learn about traditions, food, and culture from other places. You’ll get to enjoy tea and scones, learn some Bollywood (Indian) dance moves, play games from Europe and South America, and much, much more!

Have you already enjoyed swimming and stand-up paddleboarding? If you’re a camp expert, come back for an extra few days at camp with a buddy who hasn’t been to camp before! You’ll get to enjoy archery, arts & crafts, and boating together in this power-packed session. This program runs Sunday – Tuesday. Return campers should sign up with a friend who’s never been to camp so they can show them the ropes! Buddies register separately and non-Girl Scout campers pay a $15 member registration fee.

Rookie Lifeguarding: Cadettes Mini-Session

The Mockingjay You have been chosen to participate in the Annual Camp Games. It is time to master your outdoor survival skills and build your alliances. You will learn about wilderness first aid, fire building, teamwork, camouflage, archery, perseverance, shelter building, and so much more. Then test your skills in The Arena and overcome the game makers.

Passport to Outdoor Adventure On your mark, get set, GO! Head out on an awesome two-week camp journey. You’ll get to go whitewater rafting, learn x-treme canoeing rescue skills, and visit a nearby high ropes course for action 30 feet up in the air. You’ll plan your own local hike, too! Campers must bring proper hiking footwear and a daypack to participate in this program. No extensive hiking experience necessary. Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Trailblazing badge.

What SUP? Chill out and relax at camp. You’ll get to update old pieces of clothing by performing T-shirt surgery and also make jewelry from soda tabs and duct tape. Next, pamper yourself with homemade spa remedies like an oatmeal scrub. Best of all, you’ll enjoy extra stand-up paddleboarding (SUPing) time at the lake.

It’s time to get outdoor gourmet! Learn outdoor cooking techniques such as using mountain pie makers or Dutch oven cooking. Discover delicious recipes that are perfect for camp and then become a true iron chef at a fun cookout competition. Campers will earn some of the requirements for the New Cuisines badge.

Hiking Rocks 2.0 Hike to rainbows, sunsets, and stars in this awesome program. You’ll take a waterfall hike to Loves Falls and then check out six jewel-like lakes on the Lake Loop hike. You’ll be able to see for hundreds of miles when you summit the Sierra Buttes (and earn the brand new Sierra Buttes patch in the process). Campers must bring proper hiking footwear and a daypack to participate in this program. Campers must be willing to walk up to 4 miles on hilly terrain. Our counselors will ensure that the group pace meets all hiking abilities.

WILD About Camp Who needs sleep? Stay up all night at camp and have an amazing wilderness experience. Discover how to cook outdoors, build shelters, and make your own one-match fires. You’ll get to sleep in late and make your own delicious breakfasts. Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Night Owl badge. In order to enjoy this program, campers should be able to stay up until midnight without issue.

Rookie Lifeguarding: Seniors/Ambassadors Mini-Session

I Won’t Grow Up Have fun being a kid! Visit a nearby high challenge course and zip line, host a pool or dance party for all of camp, and make a mess with paint balloons. Top all this off with tie-dying and an outdoor slumber party where you get to make ice cream and sleep in after a midnight creep through camp.

Hiking Rocks 3.0 This program is the perfect introduction to overnight backpacking! You’ll go on an incredible, three-day expedition that passes beautiful lakes and ends with a sunrise summit of the Sierra Buttes. Some previous hiking experience is recommended. Campers must bring proper hiking footwear, a daypack, and a lightweight and compressible sleeping bag. A backpacking rucksack will be provided. Campers should be able to carry up to 30 pounds of weight and be able to comfortably walk up to 4 miles a day on hilly terrain.

Leadership programs at Camp Wasiu II Counselor-in-Training (CIT) I Do you love working with kids? Can’t wait to be a counselor at Camp Wasiu II? Put your passion into action as we explore the basic leadership skills needed to work with younger girls for two weeks. You will learn to teach songs, games, and camp activities while earning your CIT I pin. This program also includes a three-day, overnight backpacking experience to help you build your outdoor skills. The CIT I program fulfills the prerequisite requirements for the CIT II program. CIT I is for campers entering grades 10-12. Registration Deadline: May 31 | Fee: $399 before March 31, $425 beginning April 1

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) II Continue building your leadership skills and spend time learning about the different roles at camp – arts, archery, unit, waterfront, health, kitchen, or administrative staff. After you’ve shadowed some of our camp counselors, you’ll spend time working with an assigned camper group. This program also includes an overnight canoeing experience to help you build your outdor skills. CIT I is a prerequisite for CIT II. CIT II is for campers entering grades 11-12. Leadership programs at Day Camp Program Aides Have fun and put your leadership skills into action at Day Camp while working with campers in grades 1-3! Program Aides will be able to attend all field trips with campers and must be available all five days of the session from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. PAs will be supported and debriefed throughout the week by a designated staff member. Anyone who is working on or has already completed the Program Aide Award can be a Day Camp PA. Program Aides must have completed PA Training before April 5, 2015 for Spring Break Day Camp or by July 26, 2015 for Summer Day Camp.

Even More Camp Opportunities Family Camp Join us for 3 days of family fun! Try new things like boating, swimming, crafting, or hiking. This program is for all families with kids of all ages! Note: Adults will supervise their own campers and camp staff will provide superb program offerings. Groups must have a minimum 1 adult : 3 children ratio. One tent sleeps a maximum of 4 people. Full payments must be made during online registration (no deposits accepted). Registrations are not transferable. $20/person cancellation fee.

Troop Camp Come to Camp Wasiu II with your troop and have an incredible weekend in the outdoors! Our camp staff will provide meals and some of the daily activities such as swimming, archery (grades 2+), canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding (grades 4+), campfires, and more. Troops will plan and lead their own badge work, arts & crafts, and free-time activities. Troops wishing to have a Bridging Ceremony at camp are invited to host their own event on Saturday night. At least two adults per troop for Troop Camp must be approved, background-checked Girl Scout volunteers. One tent sleeps a maximum of 4 people. Troop Camp registration is only available to Troop Leaders. Full payments for each camper must be made during online registration (no deposits accepted). $20/person cancellation fee. Note: Due to space limitations and to allow as many girls as possible to experience camp, please only register the number of adults allowed by the following Safety Activity Checkpoint ratios: Daisies = 2 adults for every 6 girls; Brownies = 2 adults for every 12 girls; Juniors = 2 adults for every 16 girls ; Cadettes = 2 adults for every 20 girls; Seniors, Ambassadors = 2 adults for every 24 girls. Camp Mudder Older Girl Reunion Race around camp and complete obstacles that test mental as well as physical strength. Slog through the water at Packer Lake, solve puzzles, experience our brand new field archery course, and help your teammates through the challenges. This is “challenge by choice,” so you can choose what obstacles you feel comfortable completing. You’ll be placed in teams for this weekend but can sign up with a buddy! Our older girl camp reunion is for all campers who have already attended a week-long camp session in either summer 2015 or summer 2014. Eligible campers will receive an invitation to register for this program in late July. This weekend is volunteer-led and we’re looking for adult help! Interested in volunteering? Wasiu Weekend Adults-Only Retreat Wasiu Weekend is an energizing and informative volunteer-led weekend where you can learn new skills, try new activities, or just relax and have fun. Bring a bag dinner on Friday and then spend the rest of the weekend cooking outdoors! Some of our optional workshops will include Archery Instructor Level 1 Certification (extra $20 fee, 8-hour Saturday course), stand-up paddleboarding, tie-dying, and hiking the Sierra Buttes! New to Girl Scouts? Join us! Meet other Girl Scout volunteers, share experiences, and exchange ideas. Bring a friend to share this experience! Interested in hosting a workshop or volunteering? We’re introducing a week of sensational Spring Break Day Camp for 2015! Come experience the magic of camp before summer even starts while you make new friends and hang out with awesome counselors. You’ll get to explore the yumminess of food science, play lots of team games, and more! The week will include the theme days of Olympics and Color Day. Spring Break Day Camp is perfect for firsttime campers who might like to attend overnight camp at Wasiu II in the future. Camp Info Who can attend camp?

Any girl who is in the appropriate grade for her selected session can attend Girl Scout Day Camp or Camp Wasiu II. Non-members pay a $15 membership registration fee.

Activities

Depending on the age level of the camper, staffing expertise, and weather conditions, general camp activities may include swimming, canoeing, standup paddleboarding, archery, hiking, arts & crafts, campfires, singing, games, stargazing, and cookouts. All campers will receive a Camp Wasiu II patch and week-long campers will receive a camp t-shirt.

DROP-OFF / PICK-UP AT CAMP! Dropping-off at Camp Wasiu II is a great option for families who’d like to help their camper unpack on the first day of camp. You’ll walk your camper to their tent, set up their sleeping bag, and can chat with some of your camper’s counselors. For overnight camp at Camp Wasiu II, drop-off is always 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on the first day of the camp session. Pick-up is always 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. on the last day of the camp session. Bus transportation to/from camp is available on Sundays and Fridays. For weekend programs at Camp Wasiu II, drop-off is 4 – 5 p.m. on Fridays. Pick-up is 10 – 11 a.m. on Sundays. Bus transportation is not available for weekend programs.

Cookie Dough

The Girl Scout Cookie Program helps girls learn goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics…but did you know that it can also help send your Girl Scout to camp? Campers can use Cookie Dough for: • Day Camp • Camp Wasiu II (girl) resident sessions • Camp merchandise in the GSSN Shop or the camp Trading Post • Girl membership registration Cookie Dough cannot be applied to Troop Camp or Family Camp.

Required Health History Forms

Camp Info

Camp Health History Forms are REQUIRED for all camp programs longer than 4 days. All campers must have: 1. Completed GSSN Camp Health History Form 2. Proof of up-to-date immunization records 3. A physical/health exam signed by a licensed medical professional within the past 12 months of the first day of the camper’s session.

Confirmation Letters

We will send out detailed camp confirmation letters approximately 2 weeks before the start of your camper’s session. (This is in addition to the registration receipt you will receive immediately after your camp registration is processed.) Please make sure to check your email and read through all the important information shared in the confirmation letter!

Cancellation policy

For programs that do not have a deposit available during registration (i.e. Troop Camp, Family Camp, and other weekend programs), there will be a $20 per person cancellation fee. In the event of GSSN cancelling a camp program due to low enrollment, any monies paid will be refunded. In all other circumstances, any monies paid (less the non-refundable, non-transferable deposit) will be refunded only if: • The camper is placed on a waitlist or if the financial assistance amount requested is not fully granted. A written request for the refund must be submitted and received at the GSSN Reno Service Center at least three (3) weeks prior to the camper’s first day of camp. • The camper cannot attend due to illness or injury. A letter from a physician must accompany a written request for the refund. • The camper is sent home from camp due to illness or injury. Refunds are prorated in such cases and will be made only at the written request of the parent/ guardian. • Refunds will not be given if the camper leaves early for any other reason.

Stefanie “Fiji” Argus is a longtime Girl Scout, outdoor educator, and camp professional. Fiji firmly believes in the power of the Girl Scout Camp Pathway to provide girls and young women with truly transformative leadership experiences in the outdoors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education from Mount Holyoke College (South Hadley, MA). Fiji is looking forward to welcoming you to a summer filled to the brim with “camp magic,” singing, extreme fun, and new experiences.
