COSM Faculty Fellowship - Issue 17
The COSM HHMI Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellows for Peer Observation of Teaching will design and implement a college-wide program for peer-observation of teaching. The intent is to provide an equitable process that provides formative feedback intended to aid faculty in improving the quality of their teaching. The feedback may also be utilized in the annual evaluation and promotion processes if so desired by the faculty member. The fellow will serve for two academic years from Fall 2024 through Spring 2026 including development and planning work during Summer 2024 and 2025. The Fellow will work closely with newly hired and early career permanent faculty (estimated 8-10 faculty per year). Compensation for the fellow includes a stipend for the summer efforts in 2024 and one course release each academic year. The fellow will work with the current Faculty Fellow, the Faculty Center (formerly Center for Teaching Excellence), and the HHMI team.
The COSM HHMI Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellow for Peer Observation of Teaching will:
Complete training through the Faculty Center.
Plan for the peer-observation and coaching program and faculty orientation over Summer 2024, including planning on potential topics and mentoring assignments.
Serve as a peer observer and coach for new faculty on a two-year term from Fall 2024 to Spring 2026.
Assist with assessment activities.
Full time faculty of any rank are encouraged to apply. Required qualifications:
Extensive teaching experience and professional development related to teaching.
Expertise with inclusive teaching practices.
Preferred qualifications: Experience with accessibility tools for teaching.
Experience with different modalities including face-to-face, online, or hybrid. Experience with coaching or mentoring colleagues. Experience with developing assessment tools. Experience with developing and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposals. Applications should include a letter of interest addressing the qualifications of the position, a condensed curriculum vita that highlights relevant qualifications, and a (brief) letter of support from the applicant’s department head. Required format for the letter of interest: two pages maximum; single-spaced; page margin of 0.5-1.0 inches; font of 10 pts. or larger for Arial, Helvetica, Palatino Linotype, Georgia, or 11 pts or larger for Times New Roman.
