Dr. Christine Hladik (PI) and Dr. Risa Cohen (Co-PI) from SEES-Geosciences and Biology have been awarded a CESU-facilitated award with the US Army Corp of Engineers for a total of $148,551.00.
This research project will evaluate the effectiveness of the thin layer placement (TLP) strategy in supporting ecosystem and habitat functions based on continued assessments of post-TLP application on a salt marsh near Jekyll Island, Georgia

Congratulations to Dr. Clifford Padgett. He assumed the role of Chair of the Southeastern Region of the American Chemical Society at the regional meeting held in Durham NC. He will serve as Chair for the next year through October 2024.
Congratulations to Dr. Brent Feske. He was elected Chair-elect of the Southeastern Region of the ACS and will serve as Chair in 2025.
The Georgia Southern Savannah Campus Biochemistry Club is involved in an 8 session outreach program to the STEM Academy. Grace Bennett (VP of Student Club; BS Biochem) is shown here introducing the Club and an overview of outreach activities with the STEM Academy. STEM academy students learned how to make LB-agar plates from Jasmine Rodriguez (President of Student Club; BS Biochem). The students are using these plates to learn how to streak bacteria. The students finished the day by making elephant toothpaste!
