BRIGHTON & HOVE PRIDE 2019

GENERATIONS OF LOVE COFFEE PICK ME UP FOR BRIGHTON PRIDE MICHAEL DEOL

with a Pride flag inspired design to increase awareness and visibility, which the firm has a year-round commitment to. The team behind Trading Post Coffee Roasters are no strangers to working with the LGBT+ communities. Founder Michael Deol said: “Having run Brighton’s largest gay venue [Club Revenge] for 12 years and stepped in to help with the city’s Pride in 2012, I wanted to keep that tradition alive with our new venture. As with so many of the great businesses across Sussex, inclusivity in our workforce is so important, staff-members from the LGBT+ communities have been a core part of our success. The choice of Brighton & Hove Pride as our first charity partner seemed a natural one, and a great chance to raise a glass (or cup of coffee) to our city’s diversity.”

) Brighton’s Trading Post Coffee Roasters are to share profits with Pride in Brighton & Hove. What started as a business project to rejuvenate a troubled restaurant site in central Brighton has grown to become one of Sussex’s most dynamic start-ups. Now Trading Post Coffee Roasters are set to take a leap forward this July by sharing profits from the firm’s growth with the county’s charitable and nonprofit sector, in what is set to become an annual profit-sharing tradition.

From July 15 to August 11, focussed around Brighton Pride month, the local firm will donate 25p from every takeaway cup of coffee to Brighton & Hove Pride’s community fundraising, the first annual charity recipient. The scheme will run across the group’s three venues located in Brighton’s Ship Street, Kensington Gardens and Cliffe High Street, Lewes. The campaign is about more than just raising cash funds too. Special Pride Month cups have been printed, which, like Trading Posts’ regular disposable vessels, are formed of a 100% compostable cup and lid. The celebratory design is emblazoned

Harry Woodhams, group Operations Manager, added: “Working in a dynamic, local, family-run business in Brighton & Hove is great, and it’s amazing to see the support we’ve been given by the local communities. As we grew, we knew, as a management team, that the moment was right to give something back to those who have helped us become a core part of the city’s communities.” Paul Kemp, Managing Director at Brighton & Hove Pride, said: “We’re thrilled that Trading Post Coffee Roasters have come onboard to support Brighton & Hove Pride’s fundraising for local charities and community groups through their coffee sales during Pride month. We’re delighted to have been chosen as the first benefactor for the great scheme. We’re always happy to engage with businesses who want to support Pride and the local communities.”

UNILEVER SUPPORT PRIDE & BRIGHTON RAINBOW FUND ) As part of its ongoing commitment to recruiting from and supporting the LGBT+ communities, Unilever marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising with the launch of a limited edition of Radox body gel, one of their most popular products. The FEEL PROUD body gel will donate directly to the Brighton-based charity the Brighton Rainbow Fund for every unit sold. Chris Bradley, United Studio co-founder and partner, who led on the Radox work donating his company’s time to the project, explained: “As a trans woman and an active member of the LGBT+ communities with over 20 years of work with Unilever I can testify to Unilever’s diversity policy first hand. It’s not just for the month of June, it’s embedded in their culture. As an active member of the LGBT+ communities I was only too aware of the pitfalls of a project like this. I’m delighted that the direct beneficiaries of this project is a Brighton-based charity with a proven track record of helping the LGBT+ communities. The Brighton Rainbow Fund helps fund many LGBT+ and HIV voluntary groups and initiatives within the LGBT+ communities in Brighton & Hove, it makes a real difference to hundreds of individuals. As for designing the pack. That’s the easy bit. With our community under attack like it has never been in recent history we thought it right to remember some of our core values.” The new packs were launched in all branches of Superdrug on June 19, 2019.
