DANCE MUSIC BY QUEEN JOSEPHINE & KATE WILDBLOOD

ALBUMS ) This month the tunes are as joyful as the hopes only spring can bring, yes it’s time to get loved up and heartfelt. First up is the jazz-fuelled delight that is Songs For Knotty by Ishmael Ensemble on the tasty (sorry couldn’t help ourselves) Banoffee Pies label. One for the lovers. As are the minimal and ambient wonders of S.A.M.’s Dream State Of A Bellmaker on Delaphine and the Various Artists delivering the spacey sounds of Slow Porn presente Prise de Vue 1 on My Favorite Robot Records – although probably best not tell your mum. Longplayers guaranteed to engage the body this month include Alessio Modrian’s

addictive synths of Nuove Tracce (Di Vita Su Marte) on The Dub label, the misty early morning beats of Call Super fabric 92 on Fabric, the brilliant Masai Volume One on Oleeva Records, and the thrilling house showcase that is Techfui Family’s Components on Techfui. As for those making our hearts skip a beat? It has to be the divine sounds of Culoe De Song's Watergate 21 mix, the mustdance acid house undertones of The Mekanism’s Breath on Play It Say It, and the glorious grime of Letta’s Redemption on Coyote Records; a moving moment in electronic music that will stay with you long after spring has bloomed. Enjoy. Catch Wildblood & Queenie’s Home Service on RadioReverb 97.2FM radioreverb.com 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 7pm. perfectdistractions.com

DJ PROFILE: DJ SCREWPULOUS Well we’ve done it folks. We’ve survived all the way through the year’s longest month (thank you and goodbye January), so now it must be time to have a simply fabulous February darlings! And as the vague prospect of spring becomes a twinkle in our minds, surely it’s only right to get out there and have a cracking good night out. With this in mind, Queenie catches up with a young man who is sure to have you getting your wiggle on well before Valentine’s Day. So for the first time here in Gscene it’s over to you, the divine DJ Screwpulous… How are you? Okay thanks - busy working on some mixes I have been commissioned to do and planning a move shortly within Brighton. Where do you DJ? I’m resident DJ at Subline, and play in London and private gigs. You can also hear me on the South London Vibes Podcast. What are you playing these days? All types of house music in clubs, but can be totally eclectic depending on the venue. All time fave tune? I have favourite tracks in different genres but my all time fave dance track is Bodyswerve (Warren Clarke remix) by M-Gee featuring Mica Paris. Still gives me goosebumps when I play it!

Best thing about DJing in Brighton? Brighton has a no-attitude mix of locals and visitors all year round. Ultimate dream gig? Well I always wanted to play in London clubs and also abroad which I ended up doing for a number of years so some of my dreams have already been fulfilled! Now I’d love to play at an outside venue somewhere sunny - on a beach preferably! Tune you wish you’d never played? I love playing house music because so many tracks are timeless. Though there are a few I played cause they were popular at the time but would probably never play again! Guilty pleasure? ABBA, especially Dancing Queen! Describe yourself in three words?
