-John Cage A love hotel is a short-stay hotel that exists primarily to allow lovers to engage in private and erotic activities, often hidden from the public. In Georges Bataille’s Eroticism, he argued that eroticism is a transgression that dissolved the rational world temporarily. In this project, I believe that love hotels are essential backstages for urban spaces, where dreams and desires intersect.

The aim of this project is to reimagine the spatial organizations within this hedonistic and heterotopian zone that focuses on sensuality.

On the exterior, a perforated perimeter evokes curiosity while separating the hotel from the chaotic streets. From the inside, the perimeter intercepts the distractions outside of the wall to intensify the senses within the space.

Voyeurism in architecture has been utilized to create an unconventional visual relationship, dissolve the boundary between public and private, and enhance the senses of the viewer. Various applications of voyeurism inspired from different movies, scenic designs, and Chinese landscape arts that are applied to achieve the sensual intimacy within the hotel. the extroverted red-light district type in Amsterdam

Unlike most urban spaces, Japanese law requires all windows must remain closed in the red-light district, hence the streets become the main public space in Kabukicho.

By layering and inserting various voyeur platforms into public programs, a new norm of behavior is created. The intervention allows all public programs to become coherent by senses and enhances the ambiguity between public and private spaces. Various erotic programs are suggested to create a shared atmosphere that contrasts to the sporadic outside.

In individual rooms, the voyeurism focuses on the

auditory sense. Small apertures are designed for diffusing the sound of each room. Sound becomes an elusive medium that penetrates each room’s own universe, an invisible force that pulsates one’s senses, eroticizes the space, and enhances the hedonistic experience.

Geometrical concept

This project addresses dramatic changes in the media of 21 century. Information can be accessed anywhere , and the distinction between spaces of working dwelling, learning and leisure is crumbling. In my project, the library became a playful socializing space to stimulate self-learning process, un-expected social interaction through architectural form.

The library proposes a multi-directional landscape allows visitors to explore, learn freely and also engages with different activities. Geometrically it uses 4 helixes to create an interconnected surface, multiple infinite loops. the circulation is always continuous, but visually discontinue. Thus , visitors to explore the whole structure without seeing the destination, at the same time engages with different activities on their way. The scale variations among platforms provides flexibility for different media activities. Thin glass doors are provided for enclosed quiet space. The structure embraces the characteristic of the helix shape, structural columns support the whole building at the pivot point. Ramps and steps interweaving together to create a creative rhythm though out the whole experience.

Rather than stacking one level on top of another, floor planes are created to connect. The circulation connected with programed zones. The new library typology allows more flexible programic use and a hedonistic approach.

5. MY ROOF, YOUR ROOM, OUR GARDEN Competition entry Site in Hong Kong Summer 2017 1.5weeks

“Public spaces as expression of human endeavor and artifacts of the social world are the physical and metaphysical heart of the cities, thus providing channels of movement, nodes of communication and common ground for cultural activities” -William H. Whyte Social housing, as a building typology, it has been drastically impacted and altered under economical and political reasons. Especially within the urban context of Hong Kong, which has undergone great economic and urban transformations, the relationship between the private and public domain have been in turn re-shaped, and refined.

This project is not interested in the typical trend of immoderate high-density housing. Home shouldn’t be kept regarded as a completely private territory, especially under the fact of the enormous compression of our current public space. The proposal re-imagines a vertical community with a hexagonal-modular system which can both adapt and grow within a 100 square meter footprint. Every three hexagonal plates of 25 square meters each are organized horizontally to maximize building parameters for more daylighting opportunities.

Comparing to typical typologies, by vertically shifting the plates, the new design cherishes a flexible spatial arrangement of variability and interactions, which can easily react to the modern life’s ever-changing needs for new programs and public spaces.

Addressing the relationship between time and architecture, this project developed several programs from the word “coffee” within the city of Minneapolis. From the Middle Age’s British penny house to contemporary Internet coffee, time spent on drinking coffee has reduced drastically due to industrialization and the change of lifestyle. Inspired by Claude Parent & Paul Virilio’s “The Function of The Oblique”, the project disperses the process of drinking coffee by generating aggregated and clustered spaces to host the programs. A field of nondirectionally perceptual oblique walls resulted in a coffee house emphasis on a slow and continuous perception.

By reverting to an era when coffee culture cherishes its slow process and allows for more social engagement, this project raises a fundamental question: If most of the buildings today are prosthetic-like, can a narrative based on time in architecture discipline change the way we live or the way we appreciate a cup of coffee?

BLUE CLAY COUNTRY SPA Competition entry In collabration with Chris Yuan conceptual design Latvia’s countryside Spring 2017 2weeks The Blue Clay Country Spa is a eco-friendly spa and guesthouse in Latvia’s mineral rich countryside. Guest will be treated to spa treatments using locallt-sourced blue clay and can enjoy all the breathtaking nature that Latvia has to offer. The idea is that this ring would filter the outer world into an inner world, and it gets increasingly private.The middle part is filled with private nature which differ from the outer world.
