Local History

I recently attended the unveiling ceremony for the #You Decide successful projects held in Paisley. £1.2million was made available to be split across 16 local areas. Local people put forward their suggestions for projects. 2,800 projects were submitted, so many were unsuccessful. Here were the winners for my Ward:

In Bishopton, 1) Engage with the local community to carry out improvements to the appearance of roundabouts in the Village. 2) Install a tarmac path and seating along one side of the grass area on Ferry Road in front of West Porton Farm. 3) Install outdoor exercise equipment at Churchill Drive Park. In Bridge of Weir, 1) Install a wheeled sports area in Moss Road Park, including skateboarding, scooters and skates, for children and young people to enjoy.

In Langbank, 1) Contribution towards items of play equipment in Station Park. 2) Upgrade the path through Langbank playing fields from Station Road to the train station.

Most, if not all these projects, will be discussed and confirmed with the local community councils. If you submitted a project that was unsuccessful, or you have an idea for a project then please share it. We can look to see if it can be achieved some other way, or perhaps it could be put forward for a future #You Decide campaign. Bridge of Weir seems to be in constant gridlock these days. Currently there are emergency repairs to a gas main on Main Street. This gas main has been worked on many times along this street so perhaps it has reached its sell-by-date. Soon we will have major works to the sewer that crosses under the road at Amaretto. The A761 between bridge of Weir and Brookfield also requires further resurfacing this coming financial year. Just a pity they could not have resurfaced it first, but I was chasing for lining for more than a year. The cats eyes will need to be replaced as most seem to have come detached. White lining has been requested for the A761 towards Kilmacolm. It’s not a good time to be a motorist in Bridge of Weir.

Surgeries: Langbank Church - 1st Monday of the month; Cargill Hall, Bridge of Weir – 2nd Monday of the month; Bishopton Community Centre – 3rd Monday of the month. 6.30pm to 7pm.
