You left the family business to follow your dream: what was the spark that ignited the change?

After 25 very intense years working at the family business as designer and production manager, I felt the need to take a break. After a few months spent in New York, my favorite city, I finally decided to give myself over to my passions.

A past full of experiences: fashion, design, sports….what mark have they left on your artwork?

Fashion has been a truly wonderful experience, especially because I was able to enjoy the best years of the fashion business, from 1986 to 2006… I bring my love, my personality into my artwork, as well as my suffering for environmental degradation so typical of our time, which is why I use recycled materials to create my works. As for sports, they taught me not to ever give up and give everything I have to achieve results.

You were your mentors?

I’ve had a lot of art mentors, first and foremost, my father Franco who passed away many years ago. He was a great art collector and lover.

Where did you train as an artist?

New York and Los Angeles were the cities that attracted me the most in the eighties, my boyhood years. The freedom, the neon lights, the boulevards lined with palm trees…a dream that still resonates so deeply within me.

What part of Rome is your studio in?

In Rome, I converted one of my family’s large warehouses into a studio and loft. An over three thousand-square-meter space where I keep huge quantities of materials with which I create my works: cans, crown caps, bottles, jars… I also recently created some big installations by using war material such as cannons, guns…

Ha lasciato l’azienda di famiglia per seguire un sogno: cosa l’ha spinta, qual è stata la scintilla?

Dopo oltre 25 anni molto intensi nell’ azienda di famiglia dove ho lavorato come stilista e responsabile della produzione era arrivato il momento di prendermi un periodo di pausa. Pochi mesi di passati a New York, la mia città del cuore, e ho deciso di dedicarmi totalmente alle mie passioni.

Un passato denso di esperienze: moda, design, sport… che traccia hanno lasciato nella sua arte?

La moda è stata davvero un’avventura meravigliosa anche perché ho avuto la fortuna di vivere gli anni migliori, dal 1986 fino al 2006... Nella mia arte trasferisco il mio amore, la mia personalità ma anche la sofferenza del degrado ambientale tipico di questa nostra era e per questo uso materiale di riciclo per realizzare i miei lavori. Per quanto riguarda lo sport invece mi ha insegnato a non mollare mai e dare tutto me stesso per ottenere risultati.

Chi sono i suoi maestri?

I miei maestri nell’arte sono stati tanti. Il primo mio padre Franco, scomparso ormai tanti fa. Un grande collezionista e appassionato.

Dove si è formato come artista?

New York e Los Angeles sono state le città che più mi hanno affascinato negli anni 80, gli anni della mia adolescenza. La libertà, le luci al neon, i boulevard con le palme ... Un sogno fisso nei miei pensieri

Che parte di Roma ha scelto per il suo studio?

A Roma ho convertito uno dei grandi capannoni di famiglia in studio e loft. Oltre tremila metri quadri dove posso tenere grandi quantità di materiale con cui realizzo le mie opere: lattine , tappi a corona, bottiglie , barattoli... Di recente ho anche iniziato a realizzare grandi installazioni con reperti bellici come cannoni, armi…
