ún en nuestros días, la cultura maya sigue estando viva en muchas poblaciones de Yucatán, y un claro ejemplo de ello es la lengua maya, la cual vuelve muy dinámica la vida de cientos de personas, convirtiéndose en un atractivo para nacionales y extranjeros. Y es que la lengua no sólo se habla al interior del estado, también se habla en Mérida, y un lugar donde puedes escuchar que lo hablen de manera cotidiana, es el mercado San Benito y Lucas de Gálvez, ubicados en el Centro Histórico. Con la idea de fomentar y apoyar el habla de esta lengua, Explore Yucatán ha decidido trasmitirles la traducción de algunas palabras y frases que usamos en la vida diaria en lengua maya. Te invitamos a aprender a hablarlo, pero también a escribirlo. Para hablar maya, ten en cuenta lo siguiente: El maya se pronuncia como se lee a excepción
de letras con apóstrofo donde se modifica la pronunciación. Recuerda respetar acentos y las dobles letras como aa o áa; dichas vocales mayas se pronuncian como se lee. Así mismo, para escribirlo, recuerda que en el maya las letras F, D, C, H, G, Ñ, V y Q, no existen; si bien hay poblados y palabras mayas como “Caucel” o “Hanal (comida)”, que llevan alguna de estas letras, se debe únicamente a la castellanización.

A clear example is the Mayan language, which is a dynamic component in the lives of thousands of people, becoming an attraction for domestic and foreign. And the language is not only spoken in the rural areas of Yucatán State, but also in Mérida. It is a language that can be heard spoken on a daily ba-
sis, in the market San Benito and Lucas de Gálvez, located in the Historic Center. With the purpose of promoting and supporting the speaking of this language Explore Yucatán decided to provide translation of certain words and phrases in the Mayan language used in daily life. We invite you to learn to speak, and also to write it. To speak Mayan, note the following: Mayan is pronounced phonetically, with the the exception of the apostrophe, which indicates that the pronunciation is modified; the double vowel is held longer. Remember to respect accents and double letters like aa or áa; in Mayan these double vowels are pronounced as it reads. At the same time, when writing Mayan, remember that in the letters F, D, C, F, G, Ñ, V and Q, do not exist. If one finds towns and Mayan words with these letters, such as "Caucel" or "Hanal” (food), this is due exclusively to Spanish transcribing.
