As the American Angus Association embarks upon its 136th year of existence, one of the great success stories in modern US agriculture is poised to continue to enjoy our unprecedented success.

But our success wouldn’t occur without the support and hard work of the members of our forty-two state Angus associations which, of course, includes the Oregon Angus Association.

Last year, the influence of the Angus breed and your Association continued to grow. Registrations totaled 327,067 and was the 18th largest annual number recorded in our long history. Genomic profile tests conducted through Angus Genetics, Inc, grew by 28.2% to 162,469 while total genotypes on file now exceed 540,000 records which is 3x larger than the next largest beef database.

At Angus Media the redesigns of both the Angus Journal and the Angus Beef Bulletin drew accolades by readers and advertisers alike. The 40th anniversary of Certified Angus Beef saw continued record growth as 1.212B lbs. of product was sold while 7 of the Top 10 months in sales in the Brand’s history occurred during the year.

Finally, the Angus Foundation awarded $225,000 in undergraduate and graduate scholarships while almost $400,000 was donated by seven states to the National Junior Angus Show endowment fund.

As we look ahead to the coming year, the Association will continue to expand its leadership role within the beef industry. One of the ways we’ll do that is by leveraging our Belief Statement whose attributes have long been the foundation of our success. Titled “Raising Standards”, it focuses on proper cattle care; empowering the next generation; supporting our local communities; and, our commitment to stewardship of our natural resources.

Raising standards is what we’ve done for years and continue to do every single day – whether that’s on a ranch in Oregon or through the work of a CAB licensee in Portland.

We’re Angus. America’s Breed. We’re the leading beef breed in the world with the world’s largest and best known premium branded beef program. And as we plan for the future, we’ll continue to raise standards for the beef industry that ensures a prosperous future for the entire Angus family.
