Larry Levine Celebrates 20 Years as Blythedale’s CEO

2021 marked the 20th anniversary of Larry Levine’s appointment to the position of President & CEO at Blythedale Children’s Hospital. Over the years, Larry has envisioned and implemented numerous path-breaking and transformational programs, including a Health Home program that provides comprehensive care management services to countless vulnerable families in the community. This innovative model was later adopted by New York State. He also championed a one-of-a-kind assistive technology program that opens up the world to children previously trapped within their own bodies, a caregiver education program that prepares parents to bring home and care for their medically complex child, a free legal clinic to ensure that patient families have access to legal support for issues that impact their child’s health status and well-being, as well as a unique model for long-term care for children with complicated medical needs. His meticulous financial stewardship has ensured that Blythedale is on strong footing and well prepared to continue investing in mission-critical program development and construction to address the unmet needs of medically fragile children.

Over the last two decades at Blythedale, Larry conceptualized and cut the ribbon on a new 86-bed inpatient hospital, 24-bed pediatric long-term-care pavilion, an expanded Day Hospital, and a new center for Speech Pathology and Audiology. Also part of the multi-phased, $143 million investment in facilities, patient care technology and infrastructure, is a newly opened Therapy Village, Pharmacy, Simulation Lab, and Administrative Suite.

A tireless public policy advocate, Larry has spent decades listening to the concerns of parents of sick children, creating programs to meet their unique needs, and advocating for federal and state policies to improve access to high-quality pediatric health care. Leveraging compelling data and information, Larry has garnered robust bi-partisan support of these vital initiatives and has authored three pieces of legislation that were signed into law.
