Aspiration in Architecture: Architecture has always been a passion of mine. It is the only field of study where I can combine real world sciences and scenarios and integrate these systems with my love for architectural design and philosophy when it comes to the built environment. Growing up I have always been active in sports such as ice hockey and lacrosse. My background in sports has given me the drive and determination needed to be proficient in architectural design throughout my undergraduate years in college. My fascination with architecture has heightened over the years which inspired me to pursue this area of study as an undergraduate student. I knew that going into college would provide me with the opportunity to express my yearning for architectural design and study. The architectural program has challenged my critical thinking and problem solving skills as they pertain to design in architecture. Seeing a project grow from a simple sketch and study model to a fully completed project is something I have come to enjoy in the design process. In the following portfolio I have compiled 5 selected works in chronological order to best communicate my growth as an architectural student during my undergraduate career at Bowling Green State University. I have also included a sample of my work from professional practice, which I consider an exceptional experience in my young architectural career. Thank you for your time and consideration.

CLIENT SCHEME HOUSE: CONCEPT: COURTYARD

For this project each student was given a fictional client and 3 respective schemes in which to design their house around. The schemes included in the project were a linear scheme, L-scheme, and courtyard scheme house. Each student was also given 2 words that described the essence of the client. We were then required to use the words as design influence for our schemes and interpret these words into our house design to best describe our given client. My client for this project was Bruce Wayne (Batman). The words given to describe the client were shattered and split. Using these words as the essence of the client as my guide, I was to design a courtyard scheme house that best fit Bruce Wayne’s shattered history which included seeing the death of his parents, and the split of his alter ego, crime-fighter Batman, as it compared to the lavish lifestyle of Bruce Wayne, owner of Wayne Enterprises.

BERM BUILDING: TOLEDO, OH

This project was to develop a structure that houses The Bureau of Environmental Resource Management at the Promenade Park location in downtown Toledo on the Maumee Riverfront. The design is to capture what the bureau stands for in its desire to raise public awareness of environmental issues. The client reassured that the building was to include elements of sustainability as well as a design that would relate to the urban context of the City of Toledo. The proposed design for the BERM complex lends to the connection between the Maumee Riverfront and the city. As seen in the project the conceptual “sail” on the river side of the building houses the exhibition space and lobby, while the street side houses the BERM offices and meeting spaces. The building accommodates public events in order to raise awareness of environmental issues. The “sail” utilizes solar panels on the exterior glazing as a sustainable element, while at the same time acting as a metaphoric sculpture.

RESIDENCE HALL PROPOSAL: BGSU

The concept behind this design proposal for a future residence hall on BGSU campus focuses on building skin/envelope, occupant comfort, and providing a well-integrated campus space. The project is to provide a future look of what type of space BGSU hopes to develop in the upcoming years. This proposal suggests a residence hall located on the site currently occupied by Anderson/Memorial Hall. The design includes an integrated building skin utilizing electronic louvres for proper shading/privacy of residents. Components used to carry the building skin/comfortability design include double glazed curtain systems as well as aluminum panels/canopies. The residence hall also encompasses an open 3-story dining space on the ground level as well as a lecture hall, collaborative study spaces, computer labs/ classrooms, and cafe/convenience store. Additional spaces include a second level courtyard, and third story enclosed courtyard.

WALL DESIGN COMPETITION: CMU WALL DESIGN The wall depicts two activities, one on either side of the structure. The gravel hardscape draws individuals toward the isolated side of the piece which is separated by a perforated CMU wall. The perforations suggest that there is another space on the opposing side of the structure. When seated on the cantilevered bench, the window expresses the gathering side of the structure. Daily sun path allows light to filter through the perforations on either side of the wall.

Toledo Master Plan Proposal: Toledo, OH This master plan proposal integrates flexible pavilions, dormitory oriented living, park/ green space, and a new amphitheater along the Summit Street corridor on Swan Creek in the city of Toledo, Ohio. The pavilions, and the spaces that surround them, are organized on an intended grid and placed accordingly around the newly dug “links (canals) that stem from Swan Creek. The idea is that the pavilions can be utilized by the citizens of Toledo and used for a variety of purposes. These would include art installations, music events, meeting spaces, interactive classrooms for local schools, and vending for local businesses, i.e. food, art, etc.

BIM/REVIT MODELING: MOSELEY HALL, BGSU CAMPUS My position at the Office of Capital Planning/Design and Construction accounts for the creation of “architectural only” BIM models for consultant use with renovation projects that are to be done on Bowling Green’s campus. The position also calls for correct interpretation of original drawings in order to provide the most accurate model for consultant use i.e. limiting the number of site visits by consultants. Consultants also use the BIM model as an accurate reference during the design process. BIM modeling of existing campus spaces are now beginning to be utilized as tools for space management, and other building management practices through 3-D modeling
