Virginia Higher Ed. Council Reports Drop In Enrollment At State Private Colleges (AP) - A report recently released by the State Council of Higher Education shows that enrollment at Virginia's private four-year colleges and universities fell four per cent this fall. The report said 18 of the 26 private four-year institutions reporting to the council lost enrollment, while enrollment at state-supported four-year colleges went up five per cent over the previous year to 96,060. The private school losses were twice those of 1972, when only nine of the 26 institutions lost students, and private college enrollment was up slightly overall, the report said. The new total private enrollment was 27,908 this fall, the report said, a drop of about 1,000 students.
