Story Buddies Young children are paired with volunteer tweens to write and illustrate an original storybook. Together, Little Buddies and Big Buddies will use their imaginations and produce a keepsake that will become part of their life’s story.

Tween Volunteers

For ages 10-12. We provide Big Buddy training and, upon completion, a certificate for volunteering. First-time volunteers, please complete the Tween/Teen Volunteer Referral Form at gvpl.ca/volunteer. Registered.

Mad Science: Fire and Ice Show For ages 5-12. Mad scientists will dazzle you with awe-inspiring experiments. Watch them conjure a misty dry ice storm and levitate giant beach balls. Participants can volunteer to taste a special burp potion. Registered. October 20, 2:00-3:00 pm Bruce Hutchison Branch

Japanese and English Picture Card Theatre For ages 5-8. Enjoy a bilingual Japanese/English storytime using the “picture theatre” format, a storytelling style from Japan. After listening to traditional folktales, told by certified translator Wakana Takai-MacLean, create an art project. Registered. October 20, 2:00-3:00 pm Central Branch

Science Venture: Sphero Robot Challenge For ages 9-12. Work in teams to program a Sphero Robotic Ball using an iPad, then navigate an indoor obstacle course using three different levels of programming. Presented by Science Venture. Registered.
