With a varied curriculum and new facilities the opportunities are designed to effectively provide you with excellent Key Stage 5 education and prepare you for your steps beyond further education. At Skinners’ Academy, you will be encouraged and supported to “Be the best you can”, an ethos that will not only support you during your time in the 6th form but into university and/or the world of work. We provide innovative and exciting courses in a vibrant, friendly, state-of-the-art environment and offer the flexibility to follow an academic (A level) or vocational (BTEC) path. As a specialist enterprise academy, we are committed to nurturing important life skills including leadership, communication, global citizenship, digital literacy, problem solving, team working and more – and are able to offer extensive, relevant links to the city and local community. We also offer: • Academic mentoring for all students with our advisors. • A professional environment which helps students develop their sense of independence and prepares them for the world of work. • Opportunities for work experience in a range of industries. • The Extended Project, qualification which involves developing skills such as independent research, evaluation and presentation. • A comprehensive programme of activities relating to higher education and alternative progression routes, which provides students with a distinct advantage when it comes to applications.
These include the chance to participate in bespoke UCAS preparation programmes, workshops delivered by Into University and the potential to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award. • An enrichment programme and year-round initiatives designed to help each student stand out from the crowd as a well-rounded individual with a range of experience and striking personal qualities. • A comprehensive, well-respected Careers Education, Information,
Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme which includes, our
Careers Awareness Fair, in house and independent career guidance, the opportunity to meet employers, workshops (on personal branding, goal setting, savvy opportunity hunting) and much more.
ADMISSIOnS CRITERIA For GCE A levels we usually expect students to have obtained A*-C in at least five different subjects including English and maths at GCSE with a B grade in the subjects they wish to study or a related subject. Students wishing to study maths and/or science must have obtained an A in the subject at GCSE. For BTEC Extended National Diplomas, we would expect students to have achieved five A*-C grades including maths and English with a C in a similar subject.
